Hi, do you know of any drop yards in Cincinnati or anywhere near West Chester OH, that is besides the terminal in Columbus?

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Sarah, why do you need a drop yard there? If you're stopping at home there are other options.

As for your question, I don't know of any official drop yards.

Errol, the closest terminal is in Columbus which is almost 2 hrs away. Was looking for a place closer to home. What are my other options?

I'm assuming you're looking for a place to stash the truck while you stop at home. Using Trucker Path, in West Chester Twp I found a Speedway with about four parking spaces, and the Walmart has lots of room.

Use Trucker Path to find a place closer to your house. Be sure to talk to management ahead of time, tell them how long and how often you'd like to park.

You might also check with Home Depot, Lowe's, and other places around that you see trucks parked.

Thanks for the info Errol. I assumed that one could only park at a Swift facility for home time.

Parking at a terminal has its advantages. I live 30 minutes from the Memphis terminal. But you are responsible for the equipment, so a place with lots of parked trucks is the second best.

When your truck is locked up and there's that Enforcer padlock on the trailer, you should be OK to have your home time.

When I first started, they told me I could only park at truck stops or terminals for home time, but in the year and half I've been with Swift I've parked other places more times than I can count. I used to park behind Home Depot for my home time in Greeley, and a Target store in Colorado Springs when I visited family. I've also parked in a parking lot where a bunch of other trucks were parked. Never heard a peep from anyone at Swift wondering why my truck wasn't parked at a truck stop. I just always tried to go for places my truck wasn't too likely to get broken into--cameras around, well-lit, other trucks around, and/or somewhere I could check on it regularly. I even parked bobtail at my parent's house several times in their gravel driveway. I actually felt more comfortable doing that because all I had to do was look out the window to check on it. I never felt too comfortable leaving my truck unattended for a day or two, even at a truck stop--no telling what can happen to it.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

I live a ways away from my home terminal in Albuquerque. Usually park at the truck stop and if I'm bobtail I'll park right by my house. You live in a good area and should have no issues getting home. I usually have to jump through some hoops, but it's not as bad now because I know the people that run walmart dedicated in New Mexico. Anyways hope you find a good spot!

I like using Walmart's. They have LOTS of cameras. Each side of the building has no less than 4 cameras watching. The Walmart I use next to my house, I park in the employee parking next to the grocery docks. There are 6 cameras watching that side of the building, plus 3 more watching the docks. At least 3 cameras have a view of my truck. If something were to happen. It would be easy to find out who done it.

Patrick, last l heard Walmart stopped truckers from parking in their lots, has that changed?
