Hey everyone, I am trying to get my poop in a group so to speak. I need a Motor Carrier Atlas and was wondering the difference in the Rand McNally’s Deluxe edition and the standard edition?

Thanks, Ruck

Deluxe is laminated pages and spiral bound, generally a bit larger too. Standard is the cheap paper ones that are difficult to read towards the center where they're bound. Think oversized paperback book.

That's a good question, looking forward to the answer.

The deluxe seems like it would be better to have. I have the normal one, but I'm buy the laminated one soon.

Note the RED dry erase markers lol.. especially with my trainees I'll have them trace the route with dry erase markers that I supply. I need to clean up this page, but it'll wipe right off.. the cheap paper ones.. can't do this.

Yeah I seen you mention the dry erase marker in another topic. I thought it was a great idea and easy to remember the path you'll be taking (on top of writing it down of course), but if you have to look at the map again.

Exactly. It also ensures they're more familiar with the routing on the trip, where fuel stops and weigh stations are.. near what town to be looking for the next exit or particular highway, are there any toll roads, etc. It's very helpful and doing this, saved my bacon as a rookie for sure.. also those dry erase markers are great for this:

I also encourage them to write the route.. all the roads on the window too. Sometimes we'll write it on the top center of the windshield lol. Keeps it right in your face and less likely to miss a turn.

What about the large-scale Rand McNally Motor Carrier Atlas?

Anyone know if it's worth the buy or is it too big/bulky?

Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

The large scale is very large, bulky and heavy. My trainer had one that he had taken to an office place and have it rebound in 3 sections. He color coded the sections and had a list of what states were in which section. As a side note, if you have a RM GPS the large scale atlas maps don't match the GPS.
