You must not have an APU. I’ve never seen 11000 on my steers. Luckily for me, I get 12500 allowance because of the APU. Great job sliding those tandems btw.
A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Learned it the hard way, first day solo. Rainy repeated it over & over but nerves got the best of me. Today I thought I was going to get inspected at the weigh station on I-75 south entering Florida. They left me sitting on the scale for a few minutes. But they finally gave me the green light & I let out a huge sigh of relief. I’ve only been using the gauges on my truck & company trailers. So far so good, knock on wood.

Knocking on wood will eventually lead to an overweight ticket. If you have to pay that yourself, that will be another lesson learned the hard way. Find and use a CAT scale.

This was the scale at a shipper.
Shipper saw 80k and wanted me to slide tandems and leave. I asked them how they expect me to balance a 600lb axle overage when Im only 120lbs under on the other.
And the kicker was my fuel level was low.

I get that. If I ever have my gauges too close for comfort? I’m off to a CAT scale. I do appreciate your insight. Thanks!
