Im looking for some information regarding getting a job in the trucking business. Im a recent CDL CLASS A graduate and recently was declined a position because of my history. About 22 years ago I had two DUIs when i was 20 yrs old and another at 21. Obviously I was an idiot back then with no idea about life, and have grown a lot in the last 2 decades. Am i ever going to be able to find a job? Thanks for any feedback.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Try CFI and TransAm.

Also you can go through the information in this link. I think you'll find it helpful.

There are plenty of companies that will hire with DUI's that are that old. You will need to call recruiters and talk to them on an individual basis though.

We have a list of them here on TT. Welcome to the forum!

Really? 22 years ago? I know Some companies are strict, but I didn’t think 22 years WITHOUT a DUI would be a problem.

Hmm.

Dont give up, some companies want zero DUI lifetime others are more liberal, I'm getting ready to start with Prime, I had a DUI 34 years ago,,, (same thing, stupidity in early 20s) not a problem with them. Just keep applying, focus first on the companies you would prefer to be with, but also be prepared to go with a less preferred one for the first year if need be. Just dont get discouraged and keep an onward and upward attitude. Best of luck to you!

His problem is how many. Some companies won't accept more than two.

Yes, true, have read that, kinda sad, 20 years is pretty impressive in my mind for turning life around, but, please dont let it discourage you and just keep trying, your opportunity is out there somewhere, just work hard to find it!
