Hello everyone I’ve been trying to find updated information about which trucking companies still use manuals to train or if anyone knows any companies that will pay your way in a cdl school that uses manual transmissions to train. I’ve called a few places but most are automatics and prime says it’s not a guarantee which isn’t good for my future trucking career. Does anyone know all the places where they offer paid cdl training and train on manuals. I hope this information helps other people in the future as well.

Thank you to everyone who helps, Skylar

First off getting an automatic restriction on your CDL won't matter much as most companies are switching to all automatic fleets. Also, removing it won't be to difficult if need be in the future.

With that said, one of the schools CFI uses is Truck Dynasty Driving Academy, they still train on manuals. CFI has very few if any manuals left in the fleet. Hope this helps.

Skylar, what's your big concern? You mentioned your future trucking career. What do you see in your crystal ball that indicates you'll be driving a big rig with a manual transmission?

Why not get started now with the restriction, then get it removed later if necessary? All it takes is a simple driving test to remove it.

I attended Roehl's Get Your CDL program. Was paid and we trained on manual transmissions. One of their locations (in GA, I believe) only does automatics. I went in November 2018 to train in Marshfield, WI... Only ever drove stick-shift. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for. However, as the others have already mentioned... Nearly all major fleets are switching to automatics.

I'm currently going through TMC's CDL training program and we're driving/testing on their 9-spd's.

That being said, they are trying to go to an all automatic training fleet by February (not sure how expensive that will be for them to complete) as a tool to recruit more drivers that are not interested in learning how to drive a manual truck.

While I'm happy that I won't have the restriction, if all things are an equal come the day they issue me a truck and offer me the choice, I'm taking an automatic.
