Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB. Cobra 29 LX Max. What is everyone's pick?

Compact, inexpensive, works well with built in Freightliner antenna.smile.gif

I have two Cobra 29s. Of course, one is a backup.

Cobra 29 - it's as solid as a rock. It's so solid you won't even need a backup. PackRat has probably had his backup unit for twentysomething years. He's still going strong with his original radio. smile.gif

My Cobra 29 is over twenty years old.

My Cobra 29 is over twenty years old.

The two I have are different in that one has the mic cord coming out the left side, while the newer one comes out the front. I am using the older one in this old truck of mine. I do have a 23 channel Uniden that came from Western Auto back in the mid 70s.smile.gif

Western Auto

Packrat, You must be old as dirt like me. I remember Western Auto. Did they get absorbed into one of the big chains, or just go under?

I’m in my lower 60s, before this new ticker they put in me, so next year I’ll have a different birthday. I don’t know the recent history for Western Auto.

I've got a General HP-40W. I don't really recommend it or anything else you'll need to pull power from the battery. It makes swapping trucks a pain.

I have a Cobra 29 LTD Chrome. It is my second one only because I was stupid with my first one and didn’t secure it probably. All the rattling around loosened a nut on the inside and it fell onto the circuit board shorting it out.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
