Yup, your apu will kick on when the batteries are getting low
On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.
Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Good to know, I figured it would but wasn't entirely sure. Thanks!

I always leave them on. most of my trucks were dark and hard to see backing next to.... plus they help in fog and rain when in rest areas.
Can you leave your marker lights on if you have an APU/inverter? Parked at a rest area in New York and would prefer to keep them on to maybe lower the chances of getting hit.
Could make you a target (you go where you look and lights attract...)
But I would be inclined to do the same!
Dunno but I would think the APU in your shiny new truck would power them or backup the battery.
Pros please...

Personally, i appreciate when drivers have their marker lights on cuz it helps me see the corners of their equipment, but then i have difficulty with seeing in the dark lol.
Yes, as long as your apu is on, or at least in standby, it'll kick on when battery gets to programmed voltage.. for example, the apu in my last truck, a Volvo, would kick on at 12.6. There's an on/ off button (mine is on my bunk heater panel), that when turned on will display the current battery voltage for your viewing pleasure lol... it also kicks on the inverter in many setups, which supplies power to extras like wall outlets, microwaves, tvs, etc..
Did i explain this correctly, guys?
