Hi, Attained my cdl (haz/tank) in late Feb, but haven't looked too hard for a job cause I thought I was moving. Now its late April. Does potential employers see that as a negative?

Hope everyone is safe today.

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

Hi Greg! You will get a good answer to that from the more experienced drivers, but I think you just explain it when you get talking to recruiters. That’s not a long time so I doubt it will be a problem but don’t let too much more time go by. I think other things are of much greater concern to employers, like driving record, employment history, etc.

If you go too long, you might be required to take a refresher course.

I got my CDL in March of 2017 and wanted to wait for my grandfathers funeral in May before getting a job. I started near the end of June and didn't have a problem.

You should be ok right now, just do not wait much longer, for me it seemed like 6 months was when they would consider you "stale" and make you take a refresher course.

Some companies will consider it "stale" at 90 or 180 days, others will go longer. The longer you wait the more problems it's going to cause. You want to start using it as soon as possible, but no need for a panic attack.....yet.

Don’t wait too long. Like, if you’re not driving come the fireworks in July, that may look suspicious on a resume. Tomorrow is a great day to make the commitment and jump in for a great adventure.smile.gifgood-luck.gif
