Sleep Apnea:

A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.

In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.

It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.

Congratulations on your new journey!

My CPAP changed my life, I feel immensely better and never go without it. Setting up the tracking is pretty straight forward.

I’m wrapping up my training with Swift in Lewiston, ID. Today was my last day, but I’ve got to wait until Monday to test.

Take care,

G

CPAP:

Well... It's been an interesting 2 months since I last posted....

I had a cluster of a mess to get my APAP machine. The Doc's office sat on my 'script for 3 weeks because the person who handles went on vacation and did not submit beforehand. Plus, the Medical supply company did not forward my script to the Ins company to be processed. I was persistent and I was able, along with help from wife, to get it cleared and straightened out. I , finally, started treatment on 11/13/19.

Friday, 12/13/19 will be my 30 days and I have used it every evening avg. over 6 hours. the difference is incredible. WOW!

I'm down 30 pounds, also.

I'm ready for my next step and beyond.... Next week DOT card and Permit.

G-town, I would to take you up on your gracious offer for a Discovery ride. NB, I will be out of town 12/24 -12/28 for Christmas with family.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

Bullit,

I just finished the PHX Swift academy 4 weeks ago and am in the mentoring phase. I'd be happy to share any knowledge if you end up out this way.

Great news on your progress. That’s fantastic!

Let’s pick a weekend date in early-mid Jan. I’m actually hosting Delco Dave on a ride-along on Dec. 29th. When it rains (snows?) it pours. I will let Brett know so he can send me your email address and we can exchange info. and make a plan.

Thank you, IT's great to have someone who recently went through the program share info.

I;m going to talk to my cousin over Christmas about rooming with him. He's lives in PHX. If he's cool with it, I'll most likely head there.

I used to live in Surprise, I've always thought about returning to the valley.
