A couple weeks ago I went on a ride along with G-town. The ride cemented my desire to chase this lifestyle. Today, I got my 1 year med card. Now to study for CLP using The High Road Training Program. I'm really excited and happy that I've made steady progress forward. I'm very thankful that I have a supportive wife and the people on this forum.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

Bullitt, I am very happy for you and glad our ride-with day was a positive experience for you. I enjoyed our discussions and answering questions. Your attentiveness and focus on the details is a good indication of how you will respond and apply yourself during school and training.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck...and look forward to the prospect of you joining the Walmart Dedicated account. If the planets align, I look forward to training you on DC7030's operation and process.

3/17/20 -

I am sitting down, finally able to go back studying for my permit. With social distancing in place in PA, I've had to adjust to my new daily life, now that my wife and daughter are home. We're been able to reorganize/rearrange things that I can concentrate on my CDL future. I will have to travel to another county to get my testing done. Most likely Berks, which is only 45 minutes away. I just hope I have time to get this done, before anymore restrictions are placed. Interestingly, I had to hunt for CLP application, the Penndot link is broken. I searched and I found it a county website. https://www.co.berks.pa.us/Dept/Sheriff/Documents/dl-31cd.pdf

I shot a msg to my Recruiter at Swift about any changes due to the current coronavirus. I'm awaiting a response from her.

Also, It looks like My wife will be out of a job come April. She's a Transition Kindergarten teacher. Since, we were already gearing up for a life change, we feel will not be as daunting if otherwise.

Now back to the High Road Training Program and the State manual.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

I feel your pain man.

Luckily, I was proactive in getting my CLP. Missouri driver testing centers are closed as well.

Let me know what you hear from Swift. I will update my thread regarding Prime's orientation postponement as soon as I know anything additional.

Corona has been impacting a lot. I know NJ MVC’s are down now too. I don’t know how Swift school is affected. I went through last month and am currently with a mentor.

Let me know if you have any questions and good luck.
