Outside of the normal remarks used for yard moves, if I was to do let's say a post trip, can I note it under the yard move or do I need to change it to on duty, not driving?

I'm still new to using things such as yard moves, PC, etc since it wasnt allowed at my previous company. shocked.png

I use yard moves for finding my trailers and hooking my set. Inspections are on duty, not driving.

I figured as much, that's what I have been using it for but wanted to make sure.

For my company pre/post trip must be logged as On Duty. I'd check with your company to see what they want. I think it would look odd to an inspector to see you're inspecting your truck at the same time you're moving it around the yard. It sounds like most of you OTR guys are allowed to log yard move at customers but my company only allows it if we're at our 3 gated terminals.

Also always double check that you're on the correct status. I had a weird situation wednesday I put myself on yard move to fuel my reefer onsite before leaving and it didnt kick me to driving from YM when I hit 20 mph which is our threshold. I had to edit my logs when i noticed it in Cedar Rapids a little over 130 miles, 2 hours away. Had I not caught that and been inspected I'm sure I'd have been in some trouble.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

We are only allowed to use yard move at one of our terminals or a yard that is fully fenced with a gate or guard shack. We also can not add comments anywhere or log a pretrip or post trip it has to be done on the paper DVIR.
