First off, your truck's dashboard radio probably has a weather band. Good to listen to when you're driving through sketchy weather. As for an app, I prefer NOAA Weather (Granite Apps) on Android. Written forecast, graphical (lines on a chart) forecast, and animated weather maps continue all the USA.

I use the weather channel app. You can use the radar for many functions. It also gives you a time lapse view of how weather systems will travel & their intensity.

When you switch to radar view, you can click on circled icon for different views like wind speeds.

Many sources. If you're at a truck stop, go in and have a look at one of their TVs.

I use Accuweather on my phone.

I also go to Google and type in where I'm headed (the town name), then check out the 5 day weather forecast for it.

I'm also listening to XM Radio, which has several channels that will tell the real-time traffic reports for several major cities, which sometimes goes hand in hand with the weather.

Mainly, I'm listening to Channel 146, "Road Dog Trucking", and there is a national update every half hour on the weather hotspots around the country.

On my cell, I get automatic texts and alerts for really bad weather warnings-- floods, tornadoes, and blizzards.

I'm also listening to the CB to others that are passing by going the opposite direction about any weather problem they encountered earlier.

I get a lot of real-time weather radar data in the truck stops. Most of the time, go to where the CBs and TVs are sold, and chances are a TV will be showing the Weather Channel in the display case. Free, useful information.
