I'm attending truck driving school to get my class-A cdl , I've been driving Dump Trucks since 2014 and I'm an excellent driver with good work ethics but I have felonies over 10yrs old what companies would give me an opportunity. Any company that hire me would be pleased that they did. I guarantee that!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

What type of felonies are we talking about here? Western Express is known for giving people with felonies a second chance, but depending on what the felonies were, you might have more options.

Welcome Joe.

Many companies will hire you with a prior felony, especially one over 10 years old. Certain factors like the nature and severity of the crime may come into play in their decision, as well as how you've conducted your life since the crime. If you've shown a pattern of responsibility since then, you shouldn't have a big problem getting hired. Check out this link:

Depending on the felony Roehl will hire you as long as you are honest about it. In my training class there were two students that I know of that had felony records. One I have become good friends with and talk with everyday while we are out. The other got fired on the second day because he hadn't disclosed the felony on his application. The felony he had wouldnt have prevented him from being hired had he been honest about it.

Joe, I was talking to a guy driving for Westernexpress a little while back said he had 11 felonies and had been driving for 3 months after having spent 5 years in the pen. I didnt ask what they were for but I'm sure they ran through the list with 11 of them. Someone will more than likely give you a shot. Good luck with your search.

Congratulations on getting straight and putting that behind you!! It can be done.

Two of my brothers have had felonies and did jail time. They eventually went straight and one is the CEO of a company he and his partner started and the other owns his own roofing company for the past 28 years. He goes to AA regularly, while the other brother manages without it.

Hang in there. You'll find a good company that will hire you.
