If you want a CDL A permit you’ll also need Combination.

Gtown is correct that in addition to general knowledge you need combination vehicle but also air brakes. We encourage everyone to get all the endorsements but those 3 tests are all you need to get a Class A permit
A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.
Mike, Texas does have some additional questions on a special section in their CDL manual. That material is in section 14. Texas is the only state that requires that material. You'd be better prepared by going over that stuff. It's mostly technical, but they always throw in a few questions from that section.

To get my CDL permit, is there anything to be prepared for that's not covered in the general knowledge tests? I've got almost all of the answers down, but just want to know if there's any surprises I need to be aware of. I'm in Texas, if that matters.
