I start class on the 10th. I drove out to it earlier today just to find it. Found it and walked in just to make my intro. I am ready to start.smile.gif

I start on the 17th, I will be getting bus info on the 12th for the trip up. I have been to their Springfield yard before back in 90-93 time frame, I was a kid then, step dad drove for Prime back then. I looked up where the yard is on Google Maps, it looks like it would be easy to find, just one highway all the way pretty much to their front door. smile.gif Hope your training goes well good-luck.gif

Great post Daniel......Glad it's working out so well for you....For the new folks, well that's me too, but I mean folks not yet working or signed up. It's been said on here time and time again and you will keep hearing it. Daniel is a Prime example, (pardon the pun) of what hard work and good attitude will do for you. Keep it safe my friend...

Hi guys, thanks for the posts about Prime. I am in the very beginning stages of starting this whole journey and Prime is at the top of my list. I have a couple questions.

As far as the LW trucks go, is there no other option? Are you not able to get into a full size ?

Do you go Springfield for training no matter where you live (I'm in Washington state)

How long before you get paid any money at all - even the $200 weekly loan I have heard about - when does that kick in exactly?

How much money should I bring to training and do you think Prime is the best bet for someone with limited funds and needs cash ASAP?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!!

Hey Chris,

I'll answer your questions to what I know now, as I have not started with Prime yet, one week till I do.

I think the LW trucks are mainly for the reefer division of Prime. When I spoke my concern about getting an LW truck, he said I could go flat bed, or wait on a standard sized truck, or I could go for a lease (shivers), I said no to that one. I'll be sticking out the LW for the time being. Daniel B. made a good post concerning the LW trucks as far as dollar difference to run one.

You will have to ask a recruiter about if you have to go to Springfield or not. If you do, don't sweat it, they pay for your ticket there. They are paying for a bus ticket for me. I live only 3 hrs away, but why make my wife drive me up there and waste gas if they will pay my way there right?

For being paid, the $200/wk loan is during your first month of training while your learning to drive the truck. When you come back and pass your CDL skills tests, you will go back out with another trainer and you will get paid $600/wk during that phase.

You will need to bring a minimum of $100 for admin fees I was told by my recruiter. Other than that, as far as i know, it would be up to you as to if you'd want to have to worry about using the loan money and have to pay that back later.

Hope this helps, if I missed anything, I'm sure the Prime veterans here will give you more info.

If you live in WA you'll be sent to Salt Lake City, UT. Which is good in my opinion, much less people and a great atmosphere.

Hey Michael & Daniel thank you for answering at least some of my questions. I kind of assumed that I would go to SLC but wasn't positive.

Daniel, I have been following many of your posts, just wanted to say thanks for providing so much information and details about your journey it's such a huge help ans inspiration. Nor sure if your read my introduction post I made yesterday but I am really chomping at the bit to get started and looming primarily for the company sponsored school that would get me some sort of income the fastest...any income.

Daniel I also notice you started with Central, they appear to be not so high on your list now compared to Prime as far as pay goes. If you were advising someone new would they even be someone you would recommend?

And as far as the $200 goes with Prime can someone please verify specifically when that kicks in? I have read it starts as soon as you get your permit which is about 4 days into class? I have read different accounts of when that starts and that is a huge deciding factor for me.

Thanks again for all the greet help

Yeah I drove for a little over a year with Central. Had a good time there no complaints besides their constant pressure to lease. But at this moment, I've been with Prime for almost two months and I cannot think of anything that Central has over Prime or does better than Prime. Really not trying to company bash because that's not me. But I just can't think of anything.

There's no reason I wouldn't recommend Central. I had a good time and made 32k my first year with them. But I'm honestly doing the exact same thing I was doing when I was at Central except I'm probably going to be making close to 40k. So it's really doing the same thing, just not making nearly as much money.

And I'm glad you're enjoying my posts. That's one less person that thinks I'm a fool smile.gif

Rob,

I did my training with Prime and the $200/wk loan (will have to be paid back $25/wk once you get your CDL) starts the end of the week of orientation. I would recommend taking probably about $150 - $200 with you when you go to training. There is the admin fee ($100) that you pay during orientation & I would what to have a least a little spending money beyond that.

I just changed companies recently so if you have any questions, I will do my best to help.
