With the implementation of the new ELDT regulations the driver shortage is only going to get worse. That’s what I’ve been reading in trucking news commentary. Companies might become more patient and forgiving with rookie drivers as a result, so your fate may not be as dire as you fear. It’s the old supply and demand thing.

Well sorry for my confusion, I took that out of context! Once again, I really appreciate everyone's help not trying to stir the pot the wrong way. I'm just being hard on myself, I had made a goal to drive my first 250k miles without any incidents and failed that big time. I've learned my lesson, I know now that its better to slow down traffic and have a 10 car line up behind me, than to be on the side of the road in a ditch. I'll get that report to Koch ASAP. If things don't work out there, can you all give me a couple of recommendations on what companies I should try? Thank you.

Send out as many applications as possible, then narrow your search from those that may hire you.

Is your 'initial' (starter) company giving you the boot?!? WHY not just stay THERE???? I've got a few "2nd chance" companies you could look into, as well.. being in PA .. and all.

If you mentioned your company of origin, I missed it. I know, Koch is a GREAT company. Know them well.

Western Express DOES have a flatbed division, just so you know. Our epic Old School got his start there... and kills it. Go to his profile, and click on the 'social media' link. It will take you to his blog. It's amazing!

Wish you the best... I'd still stay PUT were I you. It might be a few months before anything appears on any PSP/DAC ... so ... yeah.

Care to include a photo/screenshot of the incident report? We try to help. . . ya know !!

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Hi Anne, thank you for reaching out. I currently drive for Gordon Food Service. No I'm not getting the boot, they said they like having me around. I didn't get a ticket, and I didn't get towed just had to get pulled out the snow. The incident was in NY and everytime I try to get the officer's report their DMV website is saying I have to wait at least 14 days. So unfortunately I don't have a picture of it yet. I will post it once I receive it because any help/insight is greatly appreciated! I honestly like GFS I feel like its a great company to drive for, especially if you're trying to gain TT experience. I'm trying to buy a house in Myrtle Beach and they don't have any terminals in the area, plus I just really want to do flatbed. You have to hustle alot in food service. (Loading a 2 wheel dolly with 200-300 pounds of groceries)then you have to push/pull/deliver them where ever the customer wants. In all weather conditions! With that being said I know I'll have zero issues with getting out to strap and tarp loads. Western Express actually just gave me a call and offered me a job, I'm seriously thinking about taking it. Any thoughts?

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

I have a great friend in Cleveland that still works for GFS ... he's 'maybe' 30 now?!? Haha! Mike 2633 is his handle. He's even getting burnt out after six years....! Yes, they ARE very forgiving. He tore the 'lid' off his pup on a motel intake lane... 5 years ago! (I've got pix...) He left .. and came back, with open arms. They're good people, IMHO.

YES, Food service is tough stuff... IMHO, harder than tarping! If Western wants you, then YESS! (If you by chance do facebook, go to their page, message (dm) them, and tell Abbey, that Brett & Anne say hi! She's awesome.)

Look into Rob T.'s diaries ..... HE STARTED with PFG !! >> Rob T.'s diaries!

Also, PapaPig ... he was a 'Dollar Store' Dolly Dude! >> PapaPig's Plight!

AND .... Larry T . . not been back up in here, in a week... hmm!!! Hard arske stuff. Larry T. and PFG !

Back to your ORIGINAL question....if Western Express is interested in you, and your goal IS ... flatbed ... then HECK YEAH!!!!

Old School got HIS start there, and worked WAY BEYOND what was contractually obligated. You won't even HAVE THAT. Look up Western Express in the search bar, above (the big white bar) and you'll SEE SUCCESS!!

If you click on Old School's profile, where it says 'member xxx on the web' .. it's his BLOG. You'll love it.

Wishing you the BEST man!!!

It's a YES from me, and I'm not Simon Cowell, haha!!

~ Anne ~

ps: However ... Sofia Vergara, tho!!! LoLoL~!! Love her!

I agree great people! I have no complaints my plan was to gain experience and then leave once other companies felt like I've had enough class A experience. We get a lot of Cleveland guys coming in and out of the imperial yard; I’m sure I’ve seen him around if he runs transit! This website has GREAT STORIES! I love to just sit back and read about other drivers’ experiences, it’s starting to become a new hobby of mine. I’ll definitely check those guys out and see how the food service has been treating them haha. Thank you for the recommendation I’m getting excited! I’ve actually read a post where Old School was talking about how the internet is a terrible place to find out about a company because it’s normally the guys who fail who are blasting the companies giving them a bad rep. He’s been there so long that they have to be doing something right, it’s pretty easy for us drivers to leave a company and sign up with another so that speaks volume!! Western has been on my ass, they want me to start this month. I think I’ll try to start at the beginning of March to be fair to GFS, they’ve been nothing but great to me! Is Abbey one of the recruiters? I’ll be sure to relay the message!! I appreciate the wishes! p.s. Sofia is my wife she just doesn’t know it yet haha

Howdy again, Tay !!!

That's awesome that you are being courteous with PFG. Very commendable. Just wondering, before you 'switch up' companies. Have you looked into a linehaul position with PFG?

Not sure if you've read G'Town's threads, but ... he started with (and drove for) Swift .... and upon recently moving to Delaware, took a linehaul job with PFG. He's quite happy, to say the least! Almost 10 years in at Swift, loyally, too.

Abbey is the 'online' recruiter. If you go to the Western Express Facebook page, and click 'message,' chances are you'll be speaking to Abbey. She knows Brett and I from Trucking Truth, and she's awesome; and honest!

Can I be the 'best woman' at y'alls marriage, btw?!?!?! I've got SUCH a girl crush on her.....she's the epitome of awesome! LoL!!!

Best to ya, Tay.

Keep us in the loop.

Linehaul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.
