So I’m looking into a way to drive and work a schedule I want to work I figure with the high demand for drivers companies would be a little creative and be happy to have a driver but most are the usual 3 weeks out 2 days off. So I come across a trucking app Relay on demand You go on a board pick a run and off you go work as little or as much as you want Seems interesting Seems to good to be true Was wondering if anyone has heard of it or used it? Any thoughts on this type of driving job Thanks

It's a 1099 company, your taxes will be much higher. I'm unsure of your financial obligations and goals but I'd be worried about there not being enough work when I want/need it. I can't seem to find if Relay has their own trucks or you'd be jumping in another companies truck that posted the load. This type of job would be using different trucks all the time. Many drivers don't care enough to keep the truck they're not assigned cleaned or maintained. Pretrips are much much more important in this type of situation.. I'm skeptical of the commercial insurance, what happens if you're involved in a wreck.

How long have you been driving? Roehl has very flexible hometime options such as 7 on 7 off 14 on 14 off etc. P&D for a local company would have a somewhat set schedule typically 7am to 5pm Monday thru Friday with most holidays off.

P&D:

Pickup & Delivery

Local drivers that stay around their area, usually within 100 mile radius of a terminal, picking up and delivering loads.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers for instance will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

Sounds like a load board run by brokers seeking owner operators to haul freight.

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

Just be aware, this 7/7 schedule means sharing a truck.

Sharing a truck or slip seat. You would be in the truck for your 7 out. Someone else is driving the truck your 7 home.
