This will probably be my last update for a while. On the road with my trainer was rough. I learned so much and I’m really grateful for the opportunity witte brothers has given me. Five weeks on the road training completed. Passed my solo skills test evaluation today. They gave me a 2020 peterbilt 579. Comes with smart air apu refrigerator microwave a smart tv and DVD player. Im very happy yet nervous at the same time I have only been trained on a freightliner cascadia so I’m relearning how to back again. Have my first run already scheduled I kick out tomorrow at 2000 for Minnesota. I did it! I’m so happy and relieved to not have to share a truck with another person anymore. You team drivers have my respect and admiration. Good luck and safe travels

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

I want to thank you for this rather detailed diary. I am inthe process of getting my CDL and stumbled across Witte Bros. As a veteran I want a company that willbe there if you need them. Sounds like Witte is that company. Stayin on top of maintaining trucks, throughly training new drivers and the trainers seem to be, from what Im understanding, great. Yes a solo truck is nice but also having someone beat great fundementals in you is also nice. I do a phone interview on Tuesday. Hope it works out. Ive decided its Roehl or Witte Bros. but to be honest something keeps me coming back to Witte Bros page. I guess Ill see on Tuesday. Ive got my CLP , Medical Card and ELDT done already. I dont know if thay will help my progression any but we will see. Lastly, do you still work for Witte Bros?

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Some companies require having those before starting training and other companies don't. It certainly won't hurt to already have them in hand. It's a selling point for the interview that you can illustrate your sincerity in wanting to do this.

Either one of those companies would be a good place to start your career, so it's really a matter of where you feel most comfortable based on the information provided. You don't necessarily have to be able to identify why you are choosing one company over another because you ultimately have to make a choice and in this case, both are good companies.

Just realized that with it being Wednesday and this was posted on Monday, your phone interview was yesterday. How did the interview go?
