Once on uneven ground, very cold. I raised the trailer height so I could get under it lining up kingpin within the wings of the fifth wheel. I then lowered the trailer to the point where I could get a positive coupling.
It was a workout… fortunately with an empty.
The only time I've had this problem was backing under one at a 45 degree angle to hook up, but never on a standard straight backing couple.
I have never seen that one before. I have seen tankers with the front fender standing straight up in the air. Tank washes are hard on trailers. I don’t miss them at all…

I I recently had a new experience at a tank wash. When I tried to hook up to the empty trailer it slid off my fifth wheel to the side. After two attempts and two slides I enlisted the help of the yard dog. The yard dog had the same problem. See the picture below of the overlapping fenders. Has anyone else had this issue?
