Slip Sliding Away

I I recently had a new experience at a tank wash. When I tried to hook up to the empty trailer it slid off my fifth wheel to the side. After two attempts and two slides I enlisted the help of the yard dog. The yard dog had the same problem. See the picture below of the overlapping fenders. Has anyone else had this issue?

Once on uneven ground, very cold. I raised the trailer height so I could get under it lining up kingpin within the wings of the fifth wheel. I then lowered the trailer to the point where I could get a positive coupling.

It was a workout… fortunately with an empty.

The only time I've had this problem was backing under one at a 45 degree angle to hook up, but never on a standard straight backing couple.

I have never seen that one before. I have seen tankers with the front fender standing straight up in the air. Tank washes are hard on trailers. I don’t miss them at all…
