What is a "Class D" license, and for which specific state?
What is a "Class D" license
It's a regular license.
If the points on my Class D license are higher than the number of points that would cause a suspension of a CDL A or B, am I allowed to get a CDL, or do I have to wait until those class D points are below the number of points that cause a suspension of a CDL.
I would assume so. Honestly, if your record is that bad getting a CDL is probably a waste of time and money for a few years at least.
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Yeah, with that number of points, and the current state of recruiting, it's going to be a pretty difficult if not near impossible battle to be hired.
Companies are not the ones doing the hiring. It is 100 percent the insurance company. Unfortunately you have very recent proof of very risky driving behavior. Repeatedly. The only thing that will help in this situation, is time.
Figure out why you continue to operate a small car in a dangerous enough manner to accumulate enough points to have a CDL suspended. This isn't a joke. We messed up, and people can die. Heck, people die even when WE didn't do anything wrong.
Fix your attitude towards safety, get three years between you and the last infraction, and better make sure your entire history is squeaky clean, because you are competing against people who have perfect driving records.

Thanks, everyone. Actually, it was a hypothetical question as we had an applicant (we rejected) with points on their regular DL and they asked if that would prevent them from getting a CDL (a requirement within six months of employment). The answer is that with 6 points or more on your regular DL you cannot get a CDL. Thanks, everyone.

So you're part of a company that hires drivers?
