A Small Observation About Hiring Signs

Just a casual observation I have made last couple weeks, almost all the billboards from companies looking for drivers are gone. I am used to seeing a bunch of them on 80 and 65 now there are only a couple left. Seen a few trailers that say "now hiring" and the phone numbers are covered as well.

Same goes for radio ads I am not hearing radio commercials about come join xyz nearly as much any more.

Not too surprising since a lot of companies have stopped or slowed hiring.

I came across one ad that said “taking applications for future job opportunities that may arise”

I think some companies that have ads up are either being super selective or are hiring within but have to post the ad anyways. One example would be coke right by house. They were posting for transport drivers but move their delivery drivers over to do that.

Other than driver billboards, I see many billboards advertising for manufacturing jobs. I saw a number in Wisconsin yesterday and most of them are starting in the $25 per hour range with full benefits and sign-on bonuses. Plus some offer on the job training.

What happens to all these manufactured products? Trucks have to take them somewhere.

I've been worried about this as I keep hearing or reading that many companies are slowing down and they are getting picky with their new hire. I can say that in my area on Indeed there are a lot of companies looking. However, I have noticed that many are looking for 2-3 years of driving experience within the last 5 years. I have been bombarded with offers and asked me to reach out once I finish school.

The company I work for has slowed down the hiring process a whole bunch within the last month, or so. Not so much because of no work, but because they don't have enough trucks. A good problem to have, I guess. Except for not getting the trucks that we're ordered a long time ago is responsible for the hold up in hiring.

I still see a lot of trailer doors with the advertising about hiring, but I figure those will be there for a long time. If someone calls their number, I figure they'll be informed as to whether or not they're truly hiring.

Just last year, when times were good, many companies only required one year experience. I guess it is no longer a drivers market.
