You really have to keep the doors shut to get those miles.

I’d like to have 70 mph, but we have 68mph. Last week my biggest day was going from Kansas City to Tennessee on my way to the Atlanta area. That was 707 miles, but it’s tough to break that 700 mile barrier. It happens for me about once a month, otherwise I’m pretty happy with 650 when I can just drive.

Laura, will you consider yourself “semi-retired” by going dry van? Slowing down a little bit?

Yeah I just got lucky with a longer run and open interstates this time. I don’t usually get more than 650 a day in usually but depends on where I’m at

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

I think it was last Thursday I stayed at the TA down the street from there. Awesome miles!

double-quotes-start.png

I’m currently spending my 34 at the flying J in Lake Station, IN, right next to old sketchy Gary. Where’s everyone else at this weekend?

Nice! The TA right next door or the one over in Gary? I used to stop at the one in Gary a lot years ago when I was working for Swift because it always had spots. I had no idea it was sketchy at the time 😂

Right by where you were. Zen Joker recommended it to me and he didn't steer me wrong. There's another TA directly across the street from it which seems odd to me! I stay at the Loves in lovely Gary quite a bit. We have a yard in Gary too but it's overran with trailers so I don't count on it for a spot usually.

I'm reading these big numbers and have to admit I'm getting a bit jealous of you all zipping around the country everywhere. Since I've been driving super duper local for the past 18 months, my biggest/busiest week mileage wise so far is about 105 miles. :) My average day is anywhere from 15 for a single run to 30 miles typical with two loads per day. We do a lot of stops, could be up to 12 or 15 stops but can only drive about 10 to 15 MPH between most stops (there are all on company property and very close in proximity to each other).

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Arejay, you have a very unusual driving job. It would be interesting to hear more about it. What type of truck? What do you haul? Is it full time? Hourly pay?

Over 4,000 miles for a week? Nice. I haven't come close to that, my best was 3,528.

Ditto. Sounds pretty interesting, you should tell us more about your job!

Zipping around the country sounds cooler than it is I think lol. I’m enjoying being out here again but I think it’s more just because I enjoy the simplicity of living in the truck most of the time and I like the variety of hauling flatbed loads. Other than that the view from the interstate gets a little old.

Great week man!! dancing-dog.gif

Heading to CT from upper MI this coming week. Hoping to break my prior regional record of 2827.

Stay safe buddy!

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Hmm. I might have fueled there while you were there. Trying to remember what day it was. Friday morning I believe. Maybe Thursday night.

Pulled into the receiver in Eaton CO about 30 minutes ago. Had wanted to start earlyish but the reefer had quit. Got a video from my weekend dispatcher that showed me how to fix it and it's been running since.

Will more than likely be sent to Lexington NE to pick up a beef load on Tuesday, deliver Friday in the Port of Oakland. Then I will head for the house to clean out the truck so I can turn it in the next week. I will be taking 3 to 4 weeks off and then going with a dry van company.

I’ll be heading back through Nebraska tomorrow! Currently shut down at a Loves in Newton, Iowa so I can get a pm done on my truck

I just did 4038 this week. And yeah, it’s work. It isn’t fun. But the check is nice.

Literally drive 11, do your 10, and roll. Over and over. Logging the minimum required by safety. And I’m an hourly driver. But honestly, I’m not giving up much. It’s all drop and hook.

Made it home today with 30 minutes left on my clock.

I am doing two runs a week from Avon NY to Ames Iowa and back.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.
