Hey everyone,

Today I’m announcing the final chapter in Trucking Truth’s amazing journey. After 18½ years of running Trucking Truth, I’ve decided it’s time to bring this incredible chapter to a close. This website will be shutting down permanently on October 1st.

What a ride it has been! From the very beginning, we set out to do things differently — to empathize, encourage, and inspire anyone who was considering a career in trucking and give them the advice and support they needed to make it through that first year in the industry. Together, we built something extraordinary that set a new standard in the trucking world.

Over the years, Trucking Truth has served more than 10 million visitors, and tens of thousands have launched successful trucking careers with help from this community. We changed so many lives, and I couldn’t be more proud of how we did it: with integrity, positivity, and a focus on helping others succeed.

I’ve chosen not to sell the site or keep it running because I feel it’s time for the next generation of mentors to step up, build their own communities inspired by their unique vision, and lead the next generation of drivers. I also want to make a clean break for myself and move on to new challenges in life. I’m leaving with tremendous pride in what we’ve accomplished here together.

But this ain’t over quite yet! For the next two weeks, I’ll be here daily. I’d love for you to share your thoughts, memories, and questions. If you’ve ever wanted to say something about your time here, this is your chance. I’m really looking forward to spending these last two weeks together.

On October 1st, this website will be replaced with a single thank you page as the final chapter. You guys can help me decide what that page should have on it.

This has truly been an incredible ride, and I’ll always carry a deep sense of pride and gratitude for what we’ve done together. Thank you all for making Trucking Truth such a special place, and here’s to the next chapter, for all of us.

- Brett

Well I just joined this community and immediately seen the value in its information and what all you guys have brought to this community over the years, looking at past posts. Really hate to see it go so soon after joining.

I'm getting ready to start my school in 6 days and was really happy to have this as an invaluable resource moving forward. I truly hope something else comes along that will be as beneficial to the trucking community for newcomers like myself and for the old heads alike.

Old School I'm so happy I found you on this page and found your book Hit The Road. It was such a great read and I know it'll serve me well in my journey.

Thank all of you so much for your honest and friendly replies to the couple of posts I did make.

Brett I pray whatever comes next for you serves you as well as you have served all of us.

Thanks to all!

Thank you, Jay! Sorry we're closing up shop so soon on ya, but you gave me a great idea for the thank you page that I'll put up after we close. I will list resources that I know come from trustworthy people, mostly those in our community. I know we have some members with YouTube channels, and Old School wrote an excellent book, so I'll list great resources on that thank you page Oct 1st.

Anyone who knows of great resources for new drivers can list them here in this thread. I'll make a list of them as we go. Feel free to promote yourselves if you're mentoring new drivers!

Well I wish you the best on your next adventure. I remember finding this site 12 years ago as I was preparing to go get my CDL. It was tremendously helpful in me crushing my test. Although I decided to buck the conventional wisdom by not going OTR , this community was always there for me to ask questions and get honest answers.

It's a bummer because I've only recently come back to the forum after taking an Internet break. I was excited to share my experience and unique perspective on the industry when I came back. I guess I'll just have to find new places to guide and inspire the next generation of drivers.

Thank you Brett

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I hope you do find new places where you can help and inspire people. They need it badly, as you know. Trucking is a tough business, and it's especially harsh for new drivers. If you can get them through those first 6 - 12 months, they'll be on their way. But that's no small task. They could use a guy like you to show them how it's done.

All the best to ya.

2 thousand and 68 pages of various topics. Debates had. And priceless knowledge shared. This alone is the 34,879th topic discussed.

I understand the move being made here. I just feel the forum could be “frozen” instead of being completely wiped out. No more new posts. No more new members. A single thank you page and then being able to reference back to everything everybody had discussed this far.

Those are just my thoughts. Bummed to see it go. I’ve scrolled through here pretty much daily for the past ten years.

Good luck to you Brett and to everybody else. ✌️

Oh Wow!

The world is changing fast. The internet is changing. How we use the internet is really advancing and changing. This news doesn't surprise me nearly as much as it should.

I'll miss the interaction with all of you. There's so many of you who've kept up with each other beyond the boundaries of this website. You've shared phone numbers and talked privately.

I've pretty much remained aloof. That's been my preference. It wasn't because I didn't consider each of you as friends. I just knew there was a limit to my time here. I have another life I want to pursue after seeing this trucking adventure through. Life is all about adventure. Without it, life gets stagnant.

That's one thing I've always admired about Brett. He refuses to stagnate. I recognize those types of people. I find myself gravitating to them. I feel a kindred spirit with them. I salute you brother! I'm sure you've thought about this for a while, and you've determined it will be liberating. I'm all for liberty and flexibility. Those are the things that spice up our lives and keep them interesting.

I was sharing this news with my wife and she started saying, "You've contributed so much there. You need to find a way to copy and save a lot of those posts." I told her those posts are who I am. I can say any of that stuff all day everyday. Who I am comes out when I speak or write. I don't need to think about it or recite it. I've enjoyed sharing my life, experiences, and my practices and principles with all of you.

Man, the memories I have from here! After 12 or more years, I've seen and heard it all! I've enjoyed my time with each of you tremendously. I made a few people mad, a few others laugh, and even more were made confident by our interactions here. There's no substitute for the truth. There's a core group of people here who've always done a remarkable job in here completely volunteering their time and expertise. That says a lot for this community.

Many of them will continue their efforts at guiding new drivers into a higher and better experience in trucking than their peers. In that sense, this is not the end. It is a beautiful beginning. We shall see where it goes.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
