I just graduated the FFE Academy in Fort Worth and passed my road test and am now officially a class A CDL holder. Woo-hoo! I leave tomorrow for Lancaster, TX where I will wait for my trainer driver. Any tips or advice on what to expect? Great message board btw, I'm looking forward to many good years here

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OMG!!! Of everything, my biggest fear is the trainer. I know i am gonna have to be agreeable to everything as far as company goes so i dont come off as hard to get along with. I know they try to match you up, and my preferences are gonna be as such. Gender.....dont care, race...... don't care, smoker......don't care, music......dont care, but for the love of god, DO NOT give me some fat ass with little penguin arms that cant wipe his own ass and hasn't showered in a week. If i get a wiff of that, i will puke and hitch hike home.

Lmao!! That is pretty funny. I didn't think about those that don't shower. Yeah, I keep reading so many stories about trainers. I tend to get along with everyone, but I have no idea how bad it can really get. As long as I'm trained right and he/she stops to use restrooms here and there, I'll be goooood.

Anyway, congrats man! Just remain as positive as you can, lol.

Congrats James! We haven't heard from many people who have gone through FFE's Academy recently. How did you like it there?

As far as what to expect....just roll with the punches out there. You might get a great trainer, you might not. The goal is to learn all you can and get through it so you can run solo and figure out the rest yourself.

We have some excellent articles that you'll enjoy. One was an article I wrote called New Truck Drivers: Beware Of Rocking The Boat.

We also have a category of articles titled The Trainer's Viewpoint which are really fantastic. Read through those and you'll learn a whole lot.
