Here in Iowa we are getting a lot of snow and ice. Almost slid off the interstate a few times. Hoping there is parking available at the Iowa 80 truck stop.

Dave

i heard that place was nuts this morning. Hope you found something.

I was in NE this morning, 45milea from North Platt and the roads felt like an ice rink. Took me 2 hrs to get to platt. I counted 6 jacknifes mostly on the east bond side. I hear on cb that around the 291 exit on 80 in NE was shutdown for 6 hrs+ for 2 nifed rigs. Hope you all had a safe run.

I found a spot, but it was difficult. Today, I think my trailer brakes froze.

Did you set your trailer brakes when parked? When it's that cold you want to keep the red knob pushed in, then your trailer brakes won't freeze. If they are frozen then take a hammer and beat them.

I think I got a small air leak. I set tractor brake, but NOT trailer brake, to take a shower. When I came back, the trailer brake set.

I have a good friend that drives most of the areas up north and he has a trick that he taught me about trailer brakes that he swears by. He said once he's in the lot and looking for a spot, he'll drag the Johnson bar for a bit to heat up the trailer brakes before he shuts down. He swears, they've never frozen up on him.

Was on a Colorado to Ohio run-picked up on 29th not due till Feb. 2-got to service plaza east of Toledo and parked on 31st and stayed put there during storm where about 8-10 inches fell. Arrived at delivery around 11am 2 hrs. early and got a 34 restart as a bonus.

Got stuck in Gary, woke up to snow right at me steps. Amazing I got out. 294 S had a massive pileup that shut down the highway. I saw at least 100 cars involved.

Great Answer!

I soldiered through the last 100 miles of my trip to Farmington, Connecticut but it took me 4.5 hours to get through it. I-84 from Port Jervis, New York to Farmington was a mess. I had to stop about eight or nine times just to break the ice off of my windshield wipers. I had the defroster on high, but the only thing it was accomplishing was getting myself cooked like a roasted pig... well maybe more like a prime rib! Don't want to sound like I'm a pig. Check out the snow at my receiver - this is looking out my windshield at the drive that I just backed down into to get unloaded.

Things are pretty dicey over here at the TA in Southington where I'm spending the night. Trucks parked everywhere - I'm currently blocked in by the folks who didn't have sense enough to get in here early, but we will just have to see how things are looking in the morning. I'm still headed further North East from here - I'm bound for Lawrence, Massachusetts in the morning. I could have tried to get there today, but decided I had pushed my good fortune hard enough for one day.
