Boredum is a strong theme in my life right now and i am worried about being bored out of my gourd when i get out there. I am hoping that audiobooks and my phone will be enough to keep me sane, but i get bored easily and i tend to get sleepy when i am bored. What do you guys do to ward off the mind numbing spectre of dullness or are you mostly content to watch the universe move around you while you stay stationary?

Sirius XM while rolling. TV, computer, talking to the kids and sleep when parked. That is pretty much my routine. Oh, and I torture myself by cooking some deliciousness in the crock pot while rolling too. Wanting to be alive long enough to eat that is a good motivator for staying awake.

Anything that will keep your mind engaged (without becoming a distraction, of course) will help. It definitely helps if you have an active imagination... if nothing else you could ponder the meaning of things and figure things out in your mind while driving.... again be careful it doesnt become a distraction from the driving :) I would probably discourage trying to work a crossword puzzle or word search while driving, that may be a bit much.

I'm pretty big on singing. Find out what your wife's favorite songs are and sing them and send the audio to her. That'll earn you some serious points!

Also, call up trucker friends and chat. Truckers can talk all day and it's easy to waste away a hundred miles before you even realize it.

Hmmm I guess it's a good thing you run without a cb.... I always want to strangle the guy who try to sing on the cb.

That'll do it! listening to some guy swooning & crooning on the CB, sounding like a cat with his tail stuck under a rocking chair... if that doesn't keep you awake, might be time to pull over and get some sleep.

I can totally see myself acting a fool on the CB as a way to entertain myself once i get my training done. I get a kick out of annoying people...maybe im just an A $$ ?

There is this pretty cool thing to do while you are on your breaks.... It's called reading a book. I like to read and it passes time really quick.
