Patrick, the reason some companies do this is because they have 200 students signing up, but at the last second a hundred of those students find an excuse of why they can't go.
It would be foolish of CRST to put all of the potential students on the list, only for the hotel to have to play roll call for an hour and cancel half of the reservations. It's less work to add people on the list at the last possible time to avoid this mess.
So I wouldn't think anything of this. I would apologize to the recruiter for flaking and hopefully they'll buy you another bus ticket. But either way, you'll be fine. Worse comes to worse you'll have to get a room at a different but nearby hotel until there's a room available at theirs and get reimbursed. However, that is so rare you have a better chance of winning the lottery than that happening.
I was just accepted at CRST and was scheduled for orientation March 9th in OKC. My recruiter did not tell me that they don't send the list of people checking into the hotel until the day you are checking in. I called the hotel on March 8th and was not on the list, and I did not want someone to screw up, so I did not go. It is a long trip from San Antonio to OKC. The hotel did not get the list faxed to them until 3:00 a.m. on the 9th. I have worked for a lot of companies in the last year, and nobody does this. I always call the hotel on Saturday to make sure I am on the list, so I can feel safe in knowing I will have a place to stay when I get there. Has anybody else had this experience.?
I would like to follow your experience a little bit on this particular company, as they are within my interest zone. Prime, Inc. is my first choice, but Amanda at CRST has been after me for a few months. Haha, I have to hand it to her, everything she has said to me thus far has been true according to a couple employees I have spoken to. AND SHE'S CONSISTENT!! I like it. I have a feeling that CRST is not a bad company, it is just what you make of it. Keep a positive attitude, even when times get rough my friend.
Anyone else care to share your CRST experience?

Just goes to show you how important being the 'face of the company' truly is. Whether a receptionist at a doctor's office or a recruiter for a trucking company. I'm sure you realize this, but keep in mind that you're just dealing with one person. Don't make a judgement on whether or not you wanna go to a certain company because you like the recruiter. You could've gotten a rotten recruiter, and then would you have had a sour first impression of the entire company?
I'm not sure how that crst training facility is but here in cedar rapids Iowa we have a dorm and if that's full then you go to a motel till a bed opens up... Crst is not a bad company. So far they held up their end of the bargain...

You have a point, I would have had a bad first impression, however I would try to talk to someone else within the company and even a third, three strikes and your out though. Being the face of the company is taking on a big responsibility, why mess it up with lies and/or rudeness right?
I give each and every company a good search. There are some companies I wouldn't touch with a 100 foot pole though.

You're ahead of a lot of folks then. Some people just don't have the sense to look beyond one person's bad day or poor customer service when making a judgment on an entire organization or company. Recruiters SHOULD have good people skills and stellar customer service, but that's not always the case. For the majority of the herd out there, one bad customer service experience will taint their impression of the entire organization. I just wanted to encourage you to look beyond an initial first impression (good or bad) of one employee when deciding if you want to pursue a company as an employer - looks like you already understand that. Too many other people don't get it. Then they say the entire company is horrible.

I think some recruiters are consistent because they get commission on new recruits they get to work there.

I would like to run off topic a little bit here, about another company. As you have seen, I am not one to bash any one company. I have spoken to so many different driver's from C.R. England here, because they have a terminal within 20 miles of where I live. Many of them have positive attitudes, but say they dislike C.R. England in a high manner. Are there any positives to this company other than getting a Class A? This is one of the companies I marked off my list.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
