Sooo.... what are you looking for in a trainee?

Not that I'm going to be there around sept but I am hopping to be there in March and if your available I'd def like to learn from someone who's good at what they do... granted I don't know you all that well yet but I know you better than any other trainer at prime.

I am definitely not the best instructor trainer that Prime has. Not even close.

What am I looking for in a trainee?

Great question! But I can't answer that. Heres why.

You see, if I allow the students to know exactly what I'm looking for then that gives them the opportunity to fabricate their story and personality to match what I'm looking for. Students are desperate for instructors so often times they'll make stuff up to make you believe that the both of you are a good fit.

I like to get to know folks without them knowing what I'm looking for. They give me the original them.

A ton of students are good talkers, they'll convince you with the speeches but then when it comes time to hit the road they simply cannot handle it. Those are good interviewers, but not always good drivers.

I like to walk the Campus Inn and the simulator lab and observe the students. I don't wear my instructor clothes, I just wear normal clothes to try to blend into the crowd. I look for the students who look motivated and have a good behavior and then I open conversation with them. If I like what I hear I reveal myself and interview them later.

The entire idea is this, when they know you're an instructor their entire personality changes. I try to put myself at their level to get the big picture. When they know exactly what you're looking for then theyll purposely say what you want to hear.

So in summary, I keep my wants to myself and I pretend to be a student and hide my identity until I find really good quality students.

I've tried to tell you guys he's sneaky. If you go to a restaurant with him grab hold of your money when he pulls that rattlesnake skin wallet of his out. That just means he's about to ask you for a loan!

So schedule your orientation day for the beginning of September if you want a chance to learn from me. But please note, just because you are from TT does not mean that you will get special treatment or automatically selected.

All candidates will be interviewed and assessed the same and the best match for what I'm looking for will be selected for the best training Prime has to offer. It's not uncommon for a student to have to wait 1-3 weeks for an instructor so keep that in mind!

I'm sorry I won't be eligible Daniel, I'll be there in a couple of days and I'll be a "C" seat driver. I would have really enjoyed learning from you, perhaps we will see each other out there! Any advice for c seaters gettiing a trainer?? Is it the same process, different people?

It's still the same process with the same people. You'll be with the other students who don't have their license from Monday to Friday. Come Friday they should have a trainer lined up for you.

Being a C seat is actually a much smoother process.

Hey folks, I'll be done with my current student in about a month and will be picking up a new student to take through the PSD and TNT phase at Prime.

I'll be dropping off my current student at the end of August and will be picking up another student early september.

PSD:

Prime Student Driver

Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.

The following is from Prime's website:

Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.

Obtain CDL Permit / 4 Days

  • Enter program, study and test for Missouri CDL permit.
  • Start driving/training at Prime Training Center in Springfield, Missouri.
  • Work toward 40,000 training dispatched miles (minimum) with food allowance while without CDL (Food allowance is paid back with future earnings).

On-the-Road Instruction / 10,000 Miles

  • Train with experienced certified CDL instructor for 3-4 weeks in a real world environment.
  • Get 75 hours of behind-the-wheel time with one-on-one student/instructor ratio.
  • Earn 10,000 miles toward total 40,000 miles needed.

TNT:

Trainer-N-Trainee

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.

The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.

The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

Sorry guys don't know how to delete my last post did that by accident some kind of way lol. But I'm at Prime now and just got my permit. Wouldn't mind learning from Daniel but I'll probably will be gone by the time he get here.

I would like to also thank this site for helping me pass the test. This was all I study and it is great as far as helping me. Hopefully I will get better at this or find some kind of tutorials on how to use this site.

I'll probably be putting in my applications in mid-September. Maybe I'll be in time for the next go round (or the one after that) if you're willing to drive with a female. shocked.png

I'm thinking about putting Prime on my list because of all the good things I've read here on TT. Who knows Daniel, maybe the stars will align and you would be my trainer. I'd look to run out of the Pittson, PA terminal.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Too bad Im gonna miss ya would like to meet you, so many of your posts have helped me out through training. maybe one day. Good luck finding a new one :)

Also whoever was asking about getting a trainer as a c seat, BE SOCIAL. The more people you talk to the better off you will be. Ive been hearing a lot of students are waiting a good while for a trainer lately. When I went most in my class were waiting most of the next week. Me and a couple of people from my class were social standing outside asking questions ( we were an eager bunch) and a few trainers took a shine to us and got us as theirs before they even began talking about assigning trainers. That being said don't go just because someone wants to train you. you can say no just like they can. I went out with someone I shouldnt have for TNT and its made things a lot harder on me than they needed to be just because I didnt want to speak up or postpone my training.

Good luck everyone
