I pulled my last container yesterday. Turned in my truck to Steve, all my paperwork, fuel card, port ID badge today at the office.

Now need to get last minute things finished, car ready for the trip out to Springfield MO for orientation at Prime on Monday the 8th of Feb.

Just in time...if you drove to the NJ/NY ports.

Hey that's great!

You're taking your car to Springfield? How will you get it back home?

Yes I am. I am looking at getting into a short term lease of less than a year. That way should I decide not to continue, I have a way to get home.

You know, my dad, who drove for 44 years kept his car at his company's terminal in Nashville. Because it would sit so long he left a key with the mechanics at their shop who would reconnect the battery and start it up and run it for him from time to time. If he knew he was going to drive it, he'd call them and they'd make sure the battery was charged and it was ready to roll before he arrived.

I'm sure not every company would allow that, but they really loved him there and he'd been there for years. He was one of *those* drivers lol.. the kind that companies have to demand they take time off. He'd stay out 4 to 8 months at a time and loved running the northeast and canada.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OMG Ernie do you know what that means? That means you're the first person I've ever known that started a legal business but literally staged a getaway car in case things didn't work out. Heck, astronauts have gone to the moon and climbers have climbed Everest without knowing for sure how they're going to get home afterward. But you, my friend, are a man with a plan and I like that. You're fully prepared for all possibilities.

You don't plan for things not to work out, but you don't plan on being without a plan in case they don't.

Prime: We expect you'll do great Ernie but what's your exit strategy?

Ernie: Ford

Prime: You're going to work for Ford?

Ernie: No, I'm gonna drive one up outta here like I stole it.

Ernie got that idea from his favorite middle-aged friend - me!

I learned this strategy through the many, many decades of life I've lived through.

I'm thrilled that the life experiences I shared with you a week ago will benefit you Ernie!

I find it much more reasonable to keep a backup rental car fund. Not to mention you can't guarantee what terminal you may return a truck to.
