Yep I passed my DOT today I'm good for a year! I hope that's okay with Swift I had to chill for a while to get my BP down so I could pass. Now my next step is to watch 5 hours worth of videos! That's on tonights agenda!

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Was it your BP that prevented a 2 year card? Congrats. I start w/ Swift in April.

If you have taken advantage of the High Road, you will be bored to tears. But.....Pay attention, There are a few things in there that you have never seen in your CDL manual. It is MORE than endless hours of videos. There are multiple choice/ true false test questions in there and you ARE scored on them. I spread mine out over 3 days.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I went thru a process to get my BP down for the DOT Physical. Garlic & fish oil pills. I went to my regular Dr right before the physical. My BP was so good, my Dr tried to take me off my BP pill. Oh no, I have to pass my DOT Physical & then trucking school.

My BP barely passed the physical. I got my card for a year also. I was way too happy that I passed!!! Still taking fish oil & garlic pills. Stay strong

Hey guys and gals, here's a little info you may not realize yet. If you are on any form of blood pressure medication you can only get a one year card, even though your blood pressure is within the acceptable limits.

That's just the way they do it for the folks on BP meds.

No need to be concerned, Brett always says the trucking business runs on blood pressure medicine and coffee!

Yep the fish oil and garlic thing really helps me as well. It also helps with increasing your good cholesterol. That reminds me, I need to place an online order with Costco tonight. I'm running low. LOL!

I was really happy about when I passed because I'm on anti-depressants for my depression. My prescribing doctor switched the pills on me a week before I took my DOT Physical. The examiner made me wait 2 months from the day my meds were prescribed to see if it wasn't causing day time drowsiness or depression. I feel much better that I pass and the new meds make me feel like I can take on the world again.

I also take bp meds and only get a 1 year dot physical card. Mine was just updated in Dec 2015 and at school I was just informed that when I hire on with a company after school that there is a good chance they may require me to get another physical done. I was told this is especially true if you hire on with a company that you intend to have reimburse you for the cost of school.
