I have to add aditional 30% to whatever I owe them plus the $4,400. When Maverick verified my school they called and send info to Swift that actually took 2 days to make sure I'm not in contract with them. Swift verified it, as long as I pay them back it's all good.

Maverick then approved me to go for their orientation but I joined Abilene instead.

I too thought you was with Swift! What is this new company offering that Swift doesn't have? I remember a few weeks back I mentioned XPO but you went with Swift, best fit for you. XPO would have sent you forty fives miles from home. Drumright tdt @ Central Tech. Hope you haven't made any bad decisions! Please keep us informed.

I have to pay Millis Back $5200 and they just kicked it to Collections and I am paying that back over time. If I can get back on the road I will pay it back faster

You and Flatie should have received a pure solid gold CDL license for that price! That is crazy!

Oh I just received some insightful information from the TruckingTruth Research Arm.

So we've all been wondering what in the world is going on with Flatie here. Why is she all over the place? Why does she keep changing her mind? Why is she throwing piles of money in the garbage and abandoning the company that trained her, a really bad move in our opinion for many reasons, to go (where is it today? Abilene? Who knows?)

Turns out she's been getting a lot of attention at the other trucker's forum down the road where they're telling her whatever she'd like to hear but obviously nothing that's important to understand for her career.

For instance Flatie, did anyone over there go over this scenario with you:

Swift invested all kinds of time and money into training you, right? So naturally they're going to do everything they can to help you succeed, otherwise they've lost all that time and money. But instead you're going with another company that has no time or money invested in you at all. If this other company loses you it's really no loss at all. After all, you're just a rookie who isn't going to be productive enough to turn the company a consistent profit for a while anyhow. So they'll give you a shot. If it works out, great. If not, doesn't matter. They'll just plug in the next driver and keep going.

So say you go to whatever company you're going to today and you get in a little fender bender or two within the first 90 days. Very common scenario. Well guess who is out of a job? That's right - you're almost certainly getting fired. Why would a company that hasn't invested in you bother to keep you around if you're just costing them money and making mistakes, right?

But at Swift they'd be fools to fire you after investing all of that time and money into you, wouldn't they? Of course! In fact, Paul was kind enough to help us understand how Swift handles their own drivers when the going gets tough:

High Risk Driver

Swift is bending over backwards to make sure Paul gets all of the extra help and instruction necessary to improve his safety record and driving skills. And trust me, Paul's record isn't bad at all for a rookie! By his own admission Paul says:

I hit a deer, went around a curve too fast triggering a critical event, and my backing accident

That's it? That's nothing! Almost every rookie backs into one or two things those first few months. Hitting a deer certainly wasn't Paul's fault, and going around a curve too fast happens to everyone. But I know for a fact that his record would have gotten him fired from a number of other companies. It's not uncommon for a company to have a 90 day probation period where if you get in any preventable accidents those first 90 days you're out the door. Get in two of them and you can certainly kiss your *ss goodbye.

So if that were to happen, think about your record at that point. You signed a contract for training with a company but then quit immediately to go to a second company where you got in a couple of small incidents right away and were fired.

Now who is going to be the third company? Who is going to give you a shot when you've proven you won't stick with a company even after signing a contract and then demonstrated that you're an unsafe rookie driver? I'll tell ya who - some mom-n-pop disaster of a company with really shoddy equipment and a long list of questionable practices and expectations. None of the majors will probably go near you at that point.

I know it's difficult when you're new to something to figure out who to listen to. Hopefully you'll figure it out the easy way and not learn the hard way like so many others have. And I know you want to have your dog with you. I have a dog and love dogs myself. But when you're entering a very risky, complex, and difficult trade you have to think about what makes sense long term. Well, you don't have to think that way but things normally end badly if you don't.

So now we know why Flatie's head is spinning!
