Being in this truck constantly can be overwhelming.

1st week: "I got my big truck! All day looking out the window & driving! Yesss!"

2nd week: "It's like living in a space capsule."

3rd week: "This is a shoe box! Claustrophobia is getting to me."

4th week: "Arrrrrgghhh!!!"

Home time: "Hi, Honey! Missed you."

5th week: "Yes, this is the life. Let's roll!"

I definitely see where you're coming from. I'm 2 months in and at times I get pretty frustrated. Them I remember everyone has to start somewhere. I'm learning how to drive and learning the craft known as flatbedding. It's tough but I'm still here.

DJ I live in Montrose and have for over 20 yrs. If you don't like Monarch DO NOT GO SOUTH! nuttin but high mtn passes from there on. Monarch can be a bear especially in the winter. I have driven it in all weather in my car and truck. Even on my motorcycle in November. Got caught in a snowstorm and had a guy give us a lift to the bottom with us and our bikes in a mule trailer. Best piece of advice I can give for mountain or any type road in truck is "Drive the piece of road you are on" so many of my students would worry about some grade or other 20 miles down the road and not pay attention to that piece of road they were on. That hill or mtn or whatever will be in your windshield some enough. Deal with it then. But always give e 100% attention to where you are right now. Next time you are in Montrose try to check out the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. One of our newest national parks.

As a linehaul driver...

First Week: Getting lost. Needing NYC / NJ port authority help. Getting lost in metro NYC. Felt like quitting. Not being able to sleep during the day.

Second Week: Getting lost. Crying over the phone to my wife. Looking for "better jobs." Getting lost. Not being able to sleep during the day.

Third Week: Still can't sleep during the day. Still looking for "better" jobs. etc.... Still feel like quitting.

Two Years Later: Realize I have the best job in the world. Comfortable enough to enjoy the job. Much more efficient at the job. Trying to help rookies that are .... getting lost, feeling like quitting, crying to their wives, etc.....

Linehaul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

I grew up in a 2.5 bedroom house with a tiny bath.... with 5 kids... my mom.. a crazy dog and my 3 sisters boyfriends over constantly. I had go fight for hot food... hot shower water... and bathroom use. Even the small truck makes me go "ahhhhh... it's mine" hahha. I love being left alone cause I hate stupid people and there are so many today hahah.

I really didn't feel like starting my day today though. Short run with lots of time and I just got lazy. Tomorrow is a new day

I only had a older brother and my sister is way younger than me so we never fought haha. I am feeling a little better today. The hard part I think is I am becoming an adult. A big reason I took this job is mom and dad can't bail me out forever. I have lived in the same town and house for all my life. It's all I know. I find myself just wanting to go back but the minute I am there I know I'll want to be gone haha. It was that way when I finished training. That town will never change. All I can do now is relax and stay between the lines!

Same here. Small town blues, couldn't wait to get out.
