I'm going to collect shot glasses from each state. Hopefully have chance to get all lower 48 while driving.

Just curious to hear if and what any of you guys collect while traveling?

My dad collected shot glasses and swissle sticks for years. When I was a child we took a family vacation drive from NY to CA and back. Along the way he got a shot glass from each state and tourist trap. He had quite an impressive collection after many years of collecting. A couple of years ago he sold most of it as my parents were downsizing their home. Great thread.

I love magnets, free pens and free key chains. Not sure what I would collect out there. As a kid we camped and traveled by car my dad got one of these and mounted it on a piece of lexan. That way it became a keepsake.

I collect the truck pics in my scale tickets but every time I hit a new state I have to buy a post card for the wife and a shot glass for a buddy of mine lol so I get to do lots of collecting.

I'm a huge volcano nerd, so I collect interesting bits if volcanic rock that I cone across. Most of them are at home, but I keep one in my jockey box as a wheel chock in case I have a stubborn set if tandems. It's a huge chunk of rock from the hummocks field that's strewn to the northwest of Mt. Shasta from when it collapsed about 400,000 years ago.

Tandems:

Tandem Axles

A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".

Pictures of state signs. Hubby mans the camera while I drive. I'd like to print them out and make a giant collage to hang up at home someday. We are up to 39 already!

I too wanted to do the same and take a selfie by each state sign but that would be too hard driving solo. Also be a lot of stopping and no room for parking the truck so I threw that out. Great idea though.

We've been collecting snow globes for our daughter. Some are really nice, but some are pretty cheesy looking - i rarely buy her cheesy ones.

Try stopping at the "Welcome Center" or "Visitor Center" rest areas as you enter the state. They usually have the same state signs posted in the rest area as they do on the interstate

Example:

florida-border-rest-stop-cantonment-unit

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).
