Hello, I am almost done with TnT and would like to know if anyone here is doing the Walmart Dedicated runs for prime and offer any advice or insight. Will they allow someone fresh out of TnT do the routes? I read a bit about it on forums but it seemed like alot of he "said/she said...everybody else says" and would like to hear from someone in Prime, doing the runs currently. Thanks!

Dedicated Run:

A driver or carrier who transports cargo between regular, prescribed routes. Normally it means a driver will be dedicated to working for one particular customer like Walmart or Home Depot and they will only haul freight for that customer. You'll often hear drivers say something like, "I'm on the Walmart dedicated account."

TNT:

Trainer-N-Trainee

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.

The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.

The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

I believe Miss Miyoshi is doing that. She went almost straight from training into it. Search for her profile and you should be able to find her posts about it.

Ricky, I drive for Prime and run the northeast region. Although dispatch has not yet sent me up there for a Walmart run, all of my friends do it. Three of them are fresh out of TNT. We have all been on the road solo for under a month now. If you live near Lewiston this could be a great gig for you. The weekends are when they are the most busy so they send a lot of the northeast drivers up there to help out during that time. So really, I'd say that you have two options to consider, either northeast regional or Walmart dedicated. You will be doing Walmart runs with which ever path you choose. I know they run Maine, New Hampture, Vermont, and Massachusetts. I don't believe they ever get the Walmart drivers down to Rhode Island or Connecticut. Walmart does have a few runs that will require you to do a 10 hour reset out on the road but most of the time, my friends are out and back in one day. I hope Miss Miyoshi chimes in for you and I hope that I was able to help out some. If you have more specific question let me know and I can ask my friends who run Walmart frequently.

Jonathan

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Ricky, I have been running Walmart Dedicated for almost 4 years now. Although not for Prime, I drive for Swift assigned to two NE DCs. The Walmart Dedicated operations process is basically the same no matter what carrier you are working for, including Walmart's own Private Fleet. Pay is different and possibly how you are domiciled. As far as your question about Prime "letting" you run Walmart with only TnT experience? I don't know. If you are asking my opinion? I was OTR for 3+ months before I committed to Walmart Dedicated. The first month was a serious challenge,...5-6 backs per day, many in tight spaces. There is also a lot to remember process wise, when delivering to individual stores. If you are up to it and Prime allows it, go for it.

Here is a Link of archived Walmart discussions including the exchange between myself and Miss Miyoshi. Walmart Dedicated

Happy to answer any questions you might have specific to Walmart.

Good luck.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

You're welcome. I checked the link I sent you and noticed the thread on Miss Miyoshi was not included in it. Here it is: Miss Miyoshi's Walmart dedicated discussion.

I believe Miss Miyoshi started running dedicated right after TNT and I met a person who was upgrading with me that went directly from TNT to Walmart dedicated. My first two weeks solo I was running dedicated for a customer outside of Albany, NY. I don't think it's really comparable to Walmart but I wouldn't be afraid of running dedicated directly after training. You just gotta know yourself. I guess if your backing skills could use some work then maybe having multiple deliveries a day wouldn't be the best idea for you. Then on the other hand, if your backing skills could use some work, maybe the extra practice you do everyday could help you out? You just gotta know yourself man.

How many more miles of TNT do you have left?
