Let me ask you TNTrucker...

I asked the recruiter what documentation do I need to bring and he told me just my drivers license and s.s card. What can I expect when I meet with him next week?

TNT:

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.

The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.

The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

I work for a sister Company in Tn. If you leave a Contract trucking they will sue you. If you take on this financing agreement. you just agree to work for one of the companys. I have one that pays off in 6 months Who cant last 6 months... But yes you are borrowing money. either way... It isnt a contract.. Not mincing words.

Hmmm - thought Maryville TN looked kinda close to Knoxville where Tennessee Truck Driving School is located.

So essentially - we have an EMPLOYEE of a private school opining here. No BIAS going on - I'm sure...

Rick

Offered info... Thought you were done on this hmmmmm

Would have been - had we not found you outed as an EMPLOYEE of the school.

You need to take this conversation with your recruit private - as we don't allow shills on this site.

Figuring out what company and getting prehired... All your options will be laid out before you make an informed decision...

Prehire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

Bumping this thread...TNTrucker since when is a written and signed "financial" agreement between two parties not a contract?

They are interchangeable terms, synonymous. By definition an agreement as described is most definitely a contract. Either way both parties are bound by the terms and obligations as desribed in the content of the document. To represent it as anything else, is at best misleading.

TNT not sure I understand the basis for your opposition to Rick's points. I agree with everything he wrote and he does not need to answer to any of your attempts to discredit his knowledge, objectivity, and wisdom. You seem to be selling, Rick was aggressively looking out for the best interest of Dominick and the OP.

Dominick and anyone else reading this, I strongly suggest you carefully read and understand any agreement before signing it. If you are not comfortable with it then don't sign it. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Ask questions, read the fine print, all of it, realizing the consequences if you are unable to meet the terms of your obligations.

We have seen far too many instances of drivers blindly signing an agreement/contract only to realize after the fact, they had no idea what they signed. Be smart, be your own advocate.

Thanks G-Town.

While not a mod here (and I've been asked a number of times in private WHY - but that's fine - we have enough mods that do a great job) - I've been a contributor pretty much for the 6+ years since I went to school and got my CDL. Says 4 yrs 7 mos, because a number of us dropped our membership due to a "falling out" with another board member - and were asked to come back when that issue was resolved.

So - I have been on this board for a LONG TIME. I am known for my solid researching skills, good common-sense advice and my sole motivation is looking out for the members of this board.

As G-Town remarked: He does not need to answer to any of your attempts to discredit his knowledge, objectivity, and wisdom. You seem to be selling, Rick was aggressively looking out for the best interest of Dominick and the OP.

Being that you are obviously a RECRUITER for this trucking school - I would ask about YOUR TRUCKING EXPERIENCE - but honestly, you don't need to answer, because I really don't care.

As far as it being "known" that TNTrucker73 was actually an employee of a school, this post a number of months ago, is the only indication of that:

More than likely it would be based on the amount of Training and money they had spent on you so far. I know we have a percentage deal like that for our students

You never announced it, nor likely made it known to the board owner. Which is really neither here, nor there - until you direct board members to your school:

You can check out Tampa Truck driving school.... They can school you up in 3 weeks and get you placed with a Carrier that will pay you better than 300 a week. Plus you may qualify for no money out of pocket.

Again - neither here nor there- save for the fact that it took me calling you out on POTENTIALLY BEING an employee of Tampa/Tennessee Truck Driving School - for you to actually COME CLEAN AND ADMIT IT. Neither here nor there, save for the fact that you were again, "mincing words", and misrepresenting yourself until called on it.

Now - I'm not passing judgement on your schools or programs - because I know nothing about them. The board lists a lot of schools - but doesn't necessarily ENDORSE ANY OF THEM, simply because they are listed. But the FACT IS that Tennessee Truck Driving School IS listed - while TAMPA IS NOT. Likely an oversight on the boards part and not an issue with the school itself. Both schools have the SAME OWNERS (nothing wrong with that either - simply stating a fact).

NONE of the information I have provided in my responses on this thread have been FACTUALLY INCORRECT.

1 - Companies determine what your HOME ZIP CODE IS - by the ADDRESS ON YOUR LICENSE. If your LICENSE ADDRESS is not in their hiring area - they WILL NOT HIRE YOU. For some this is easily remedied - friends, relatives, UPS Store Mailbox. For others with property, licenses/permits other than CDL's (FFL's, multiple vehicle registrations and other things in my case for example - all of which legally need to be changed) - it gets a little more complicated. But the FACT REMAINS - your DRIVERS LICENSE is considered your DOMICILE ADDRESS. And if you ALREADY HAVE A CDL - you can't (at least in Florida) just go online and change it to whatever you want it to be - you have to go INTO DMV with a few documents in your NEW ADDRESS to change it.

2 - An "agreement" (financing agreement for your school, for example) IS A CONTRACT. If you look at your schools REFUND POLICY - you have 72 hours to cancel when you sign up (standard language CONTRACT RESCISSION PERIOD IN FLORIDA). So again - DO NOT MINCE WORDS WITH ME.

I'd also suspect from some of your other comments regarding this contract - that it may REQUIRE THE STUDENT TO ONLY SIGN ON with a "school approved employer" - which means that the school has an agreement with the companies to ensure payment.

I don't even want to ask, why the ZERO INTEREST FINANCE AGREEMENT requires a "checking account"? Does this agreement require DIRECT WITHDRAWALS from the students checking account also?

Evading the TRUTH throws up RED FLAGS and causes EVERYTHING YOU SAY to require SCRUTINY (as if you thought I wanted to actually go back through ALL YOUR POSTS). And being that you ARE REPRESENTING A COMPANY HERE (not just being a "helpful experienced trucker" - even though many of your previous posts might have been), causes me to want to look at that company further.

But in all honestly - don't really care. I just want out new members to BE AWARE FOR THE OBLIGATIONS that signing a contract/finance agreement/whatever - puts you under. That NO SCHOOL can guarantee you PERMANENT EMPLOYMENT (and this isn't a reflection on Tampa/Tennessee schools in particular) and if you aren't working when the "finance agreement" calls for repayments to start - it's like Robert DeNiro's character in GoodFellas - "F YOU - GIVE ME MY F'in MONEY".

These people are brand new to the industry - and unlike a lot of other board - we try to give them THE HONEST FACTS, without all the BS that goes down on other boards (and I'm a member on a number of those too).

Best of luck to you TNTrucker. Please Dominic and Mighty Mike - always tread carefully on large geographic and financial decisions.

Rick
