Sorry, kind of an inside joke.

Always kidding about the Diamond lounge and showers. Basically "Liars club"

Ask Errol, the Diamond showers in Memphis have a sauna, the shower booths have 7 adjustable heads.

Phoenix doesn't have the sauna, but you can get a deep tissue massage after your shower.

That kind of stuff. Oh and some mentors have been known to prank their trainees by telling them to see if they can beg the Diamond key off the window person.

I'm a Knight driver and one piece of advice I can give you about working for swift is, pay no attention to the haters.

You'll likely encounter a lot of people downing swift, name calling, insults, etc... just disregard all that nonsense. Swift is a fine company and they do a lot of work, it's just you have a lot of people who think it's funny to put down other companies because they are considered a "starter company".

Follow the advice of these swifties here, and you'll be in good hands.

Congrats and good luck!

Diamond lounge is like Club 33 at Disneyland. Other drivers are not permitted to know if it's existence.

Sambo11513 Your right as I have heard about negative reviews about swift also and from being a member of this site I learned that I cannot trust some comments I read on sites like "Indeed" , "Glassdoor" and "YouTube". I had my CDL-A for a while now since I graduated from the school but had to hold off applying to companies for family reasons & will be able to apply in April. How do you like working for Knight? When I was in school I did a class report on Knight. I am still reviewing companies. Thanks

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Victor the absolute best I can offer is take it one step and one day at a time. Never let the highs get you too high, or lows get you too low. Even keel...

As part of your training, you'll be required to perform 40 backing maneuvers. Every chance you get, "back the truck". If your mentor's truck has a CB, turn it off when you get to a TS...all the haters will be on, cheering your arrival.

Learn the Qualcomm , elogs , and the frequently used and required macros. It's your primary communication tool with driver leaders and a permanent record documenting your interaction and driving path.

Do your PTI...never skip it no matter how pressured for time you feel. Which brings me to my final piece of advice: don't rush, take your time, "watch your wagon", and "never let the chaos of the moment compromise good, safe judgement".

Good luck and safe travels.

Elog:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Don, you are feeling a sudden compulsion for blue trucks with orange writing on the side, lol. Seriously though, shoot my company an App and see what they say. Couldn't hurt to get as many prehires on the table as you can to choose from.

Btw, I drive for H.O. Wolding.

Prehire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

G-Town that is advice I will keep with me my whole trucking career, that great advice! I am excited for it and man that is a TON of backing manuevers! How long is the training? My job placement recruiter says that it is very good training so I know I will be in good hands when I get there! How long is Orientation? See I need to know because I need to know whether or not I need to quite my current job or just take my second week off just in case I don't pass the orientation which I am quite sure because of my determination and the help of the divine that I will pass. Thanks for the help as always! I love this site and my trucker family! I cannot express how thankful I amsmile.gif

LOL Funny as it made me recall my High school colors was blue and orange! I did inquire about one company, they told me to wait because could not get me home for my Mom's memorial service on April 1st. I will check out the company you work for and if I go for it, I will use your name if it helps as a bonus?
