So I have said in a very recent post that I was given a pre-hire letter from Swift and that when I called that Gary the recruiter says he can get me in on the 1st of April and then he says something that makes me nervous, he said to follow up with him in two weeks and I called him on Thursday of last week, my placement recruiter said to give him a call this Thursday just to confirm the date of orientation. What should I do?

Also I called my placement recruiter this morning about a moving violation that I had NO IDEA was a moving violation until I called Werner because I was told by my cousin that I should apply with them and I was doing so over the phone and then she said that the " Fail to Obey Highway" was a moving violation. Well I said to my placement recruiter at CDS Tractor Trailer Training that I did not mention this to Gary because I did not think that it was a moving violation which I was told that it wasn't exactly a moving violation which I was told wasn't a big deal. Well now I am very worried that I might have made a mistake about that. I am going to give you all the dates and the violation statements that it says on my record. I want to know if I should call Gary up again and tell him that I accidentally did not say this one ticket because I did not know it was considered a moving violation? I want this job so bad that I want to make sure I have every thing told to him. I am a truthful and honest man and I don't try to hide everything because I know thats how bad things happen. Here is the tickets and right now it says I have 0 points on my record:

Convicted: Offense date: 12/08/2014 Speeding 15-19 above speed limit. ( But does not say reckless at all). Accident: ON 12/23/2014 In Loudoun County. No injury/property damage. Convicted: 09/03/2014 fail to obey highway sign. Accident: offense date 04/02/2014 in Frederick County. No injuries car was towed away, and nothing on my record says reckless.

So now that you see that please tell my my next moves to correct my mistake. My placement recruiter says its no big deal, I say that I am nervous as heck and don't want to mess this grand opportunity up. As you can see I am going to be absolutely and positively OPEN TO DISCUSSION!! So thanks for your help and kindness and God bless!

Pre-hire:

What Exactly Is A Pre-Hire Letter?

Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.

We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.

A Pre-Hire Letter Is Not A Guarantee Of Employment

The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.

During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.

I can recall that Gary was very certain that all he had to do was set up the orientation and all so I am pretty confident that I will make it but I just don't was to get there and find out that I somehow accidentally hid something that I did not mean to do. Oh and another question on top of that, if I have orientation should I quite the job that I am at right now? Why I ask is because where I work, if I give them two weeks notice they will just let me go, which is why I need to know without a doubt that I will have a job and be able to have a income. I know Swift is about 5 weeks training and orientation is about $70 a day which isn't bad. Nevertheless, I must be confident to be able to resign the job I am at. If I am at orientation, which I hear is only 3 days long and then right afterwards is the TNT , then there would be absolutely no time for me to give my current employer a notice of resignation. Which I would have no problem with considering their treatment over the last two and a half years. Thanks for your help I really appreciate itsmile.gif

TNT:

Trainer-N-Trainee

Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.

The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.

The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.

Victor, I am of the opinion that you definitely need to discuss these matters with your recruiter at Swift. Both of those items are considered big concerns in the trucking industry. It doesn't really matter that nothing says reckless on the paperwork, trucking companies usually consider any speeding violation of 15 over as reckless driving. A ticket for failure to obey a highway sign would have me immediately terminated from Knight, or at least that is what I have been told.

You are better off getting it all out in the open before you get there. You're Swift recruiter will know how best to handle this and advise you. Put the ball in his court and go from there.

Even tho you've stayed out of ticket/accident trouble since 2014 - that's a lot of stuff you racked up in a short amount of time.

That 15+ is going to be the most difficult to overcome.

I hit a pedestrian in a POV in '15. No citation, long form accident report puts the j-walker at fault - and I have a "no liability letter" from my insurance company.

I would get a FIRM COMMITMENT for an orientation date - based on your past driving record. You may find that companies might be leery of it - until they are more than 3 years old.

Looks like you had a rough 2014, driving-wise.

Ok thank you Old School and Rick! I will be calling him tomorrow and hopefully confirm everything. Praying I still will be able to move forward!

Rick id suggest the time line be atleast 5 years old. Although I heard there are companies that do a 10 year search?

I had a bad 2013, 4 improper equipments, one speeding ticket. And two other violations.

2014 had a improper equipment. All moving violations in Massachusetts ( I didn't know how to fight tickets or that I could)

Werner denied me and said I need atleast 6 months experience. I don't blame them. Soon I'll be released from that terrible time, one year and x amount of months to go !

Good news I had forgotten that I had put myh mvr with the application so he would have had to look at it before he sent me a pre-hire letter. My placement recruiter reminded me of that.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.
