Well, I got my first service failure this morning. Was an hour late to an appointment. Wasn't for a lack of trying. Ran my clock completely out yesterday trying to get there, but between construction and accidents. Yeah... I guess for punishment they gave me a short 264 mile run that has well over 24hrs left on it. It isn't due until 7am Thursday. Oh well, I'm still going to be knocking on the receivers door tomorrow morning.

It happens. This business has a short memory and noone has time to punish a driver, so it shouldn't affect you too much.

They might get you on a load or two, more likely it is just a coincidence.

It's a minor glitch Patrick. My only suggestion in the future is try to anticipate delays as best you can and inform your DMs in advance if you think you will be delayed.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

It is what it is. I am sitting at my RCVR right now. Supposedly CS called and asked if they could take me and they said no. (My DMs answer back from CS was really quick, a lot quicker than usual.) Right now all the docks are full. It is a torrential downpour outside. If the line of trucks thins out and no more show up, I figure I will see if I can sweet talk my way into a dock. I figure at least a few drivers will throw in the towel when at times you can't see past the hood of your own truck.

Did you let your Driver Manager know in advance that you would be late because of the delays? If the delays were caused by road construction, accidents that you weren't involved in and other traffic, then this isn't your fault. You need to appeal the punishment and possible request a new Driver Manager. That's the crazy thing about some driver managers at trucking companies. They only see the bad and never the good records that you have. What company are you with and how long have you been there?

When I realized I wasn't gonna make it and all the little things put me too far behind schedule; the office staff already went home for the day. The load was due before they would be back in the next morning. There is a night dispatch, however, I was too busy kicking myself in the butt.

Like I said, it what it is. I will take my lickins on this. As long as it is not prolonged. Can't really afford to be stuck twiddling my thumbs too much. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

As far as how long I have been with my company, I just passed my 6 month mark. As for who I work for, lol. I thought everybody knew. Hint: look at my pic.

Ahh, I gotcha. You should have messaged night dispatch (make sure they give your DM the message before they left in the morning) and called your Driver Manager's direct line and left your DM a message with the date and time you called, that way you would have been covered. Do you have a Qualcomm unit in your truck? If you have a smartphoone, then message night dispatch and take a picture of the message with the date and time it was sent. That also would have covered you. Basically 15 minutes to do that and you would be ok now. Oh well, lesson learned. These things happen. It is what it is.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Yes we have a QualComm and TransFlo Mobile+ App. Ran my clock out in the attempt of getting there. Was too busy kicking myself in the groin. I have always been able to pull things off. Even with literally seconds to spare. Murphy just made sure it didn't work out for me this time.

The Titans? No sh**? I know...weak. LOL

Okay, I get it...could you have sent a macro message through your QC indicting you were running late? Or not something you have... Not rhetorical, I don't really know about the systems you use at HO Wolding.

I could of sent a free form message or an ETA/PTA update macro. I was too busy wallowing and trying to figure out how I was gonna pull this off. Unfortunately I didn't plan ahead earlier in the day and sat the extra time at one of my earlier appointments that day. My delivery in the morning I only spent 1 hr and 15 mins. My first shipper I spent 1hr 46 mins. Should of took the extra 14 mins. That way I could of done a 2/8. That would of saved my hide. My second RCVR/shipper was a drop n hook. Even though there was a line, I was still in and out in 30 mins.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
