Fantastic! Keep an open mind, two open ears and a closed mouth and you should be a total success. I look forward to following your journey.
Operating While Intoxicated
Awesome Colin. Best of luck to ya!
Whatever you do, don't fall for the negative baloney that the pessimists will throw at you, and there will be some that you'll encounter. You've probably heard us refer to them as terminal rats. Listen to this podcast if you haven't already:
Terminal Rats Are Derailing Trucking Careers
Every company and every truck stop has them. There are a lot of miserable people in this career, not because it's a bad career, but because they're either not cut out for it or haven't figured it out. So make sure you only take advice from the people who seem to be happy with their career, and most importantly, are willing to help you become a better driver. The minute you come across someone who wants to complain and blame and point fingers at everyone just tell em, "Zip it Chip" and walk away before they ruin your day.
Work hard, have an awesome attitude, and be patient with the process. It's a tough road with a lot of ups and downs but that's what makes it so rewarding at the same time.
Go get em!
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
Sending best wishes and good vibes your way Colin. Keep focused and stay sharp. Get er done!
Good luck to you and can't wait to read your diary.
Good luck with CR England. May you have a better experience than a classmate of mine had.
Thank you for the encouragement, everybody! It really helps. I have no family in the area so this site, along with my faith, serve as my support network.
Best Regards, Colin K.
Colin, we are all pulling for you!
Just set yourself for a challenge, because that's just the way it goes when getting into this. Avoid the rats, cause there are going to be plenty of them trying to drag you down to their level. They will fail, don't join yourself to them.
If you hit some snags, jump in here and we will be more than happy to help you. Hang in there brother. Success is within your reach.
I finally posted the first entry in my training diary for the C.R. England Truck Driving School in Fontana, CA. So far, I am very impressed! They are very thorough and somewhat strict. Those are situations that I learn best in. I've got a long way to go, of course, but I'm off to the good start.
Thank you for the continuing encouragement. I'm staying away from rats, keeping my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut, except to ask a question!
Best Regards, Colin
Do they still pay 14 cents per mile for new drivers?
New! Check out our help videos for a better understanding of our forum features
I start my training at 6 am tomorrow at CR England's facility in Fontana, CA!
I'm going in determined and with an open mind. I'm also taking all of your advice and encouragement with me. I will also start a diary in the diary section to hopefully benefit others.
Best Regards, Colin K.
