There’s no “catch”. You still have to perform. There’s probably performance requirements that have to be met.
Why settle for the minimum? Maverick pays very well, and the miles are there to easily make a lot more than the minimum.
But sometimes poop happens, and it is nice to know that the minimum is there.
The idea is that you'll get paid if they mess up and can't get you enough freight even though you were available for it. So you have to be available to run, you can't be refusing to haul any loads, you can't be sick - that sort of thing.
Trust me, no company in any industry is going to be in business long if they're paying people to sit around. They have no intention of having to pay anyone for doing nothing. If they're saying they can guarantee you $1,000 per week then I can assure you they expect you to be able to haul $1,100 - $1,500/week worth of freight most of the time. They'll keep you running hard, you can count on that.
I questioned this also. It seemed insane to me to pay a guarantee in a performance based business.
But you do have to be available to drive, and take loads assigned. So what it says to me is they are confident they can keep you busy enough to not have to pay it, after I thought about it, and read some of the responses here.
Weirdly enough, I may actually be getting the guarantee for the past week. Four loads, all around three hundred miles, all with twenty-four or more hours between pickup and delivery, and not a single appointment able to be moved forward. A lot of sitting around was done. Finally got a decent load to run for the weekend. But loads like this do happen that kill your productivity, just not usually four in one week.
Had this guarantee at my company for the first 90 days of employment. I never got it because I always grossed more. The only time I gross less is when i go home for 5-6 days. Not with maverick but take it for what its worth. Also know that there are plenty who do gross less, they also are not employed for long, atleast not at the same company.
