Anyone know if you can request Non-Smoking Trainers at Swift? I talked to Jackie in Arizona, but forgot to ask if I could request a Non-Smoking Trainer for on the road time. I do like the idea of still driving as solo while out with a trainer. I will be training out of Fontana, CA. and have a home terminal of Lathrop, Ca. for now.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

You can. I’m starting my orientation on Monday. They asked me smoking or non-smoking mentor.

Yes, you can request smoker or non-smoker, male or female, non animal truck etc. There are many requests you can make. They want you to succeed so they do their best to match you up with the most compatible trainer. So you know, you will only be driving as solo for about the first 40-50 hours of your training then you go to team driving as long as your mentor feels you are safe and ready. good-luck.gif

Agree with everyone. My Swift Mentor was a non-smoker. But like me, chewed a pack of gum per day.

I totally forgot about the non animal. No smoke and no pets for me.

Yes definitely non-animal also. It will be crowded enough with two on there, much less "fido" on there. I need to call Jackie back this morning, and see where we go from where we left off on Friday.

Now before those that have pets on their trucks get their panties in a twist. I love animals, but in training, and not my animal, that's different.

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I've got my dog with me. I've been asked on numerous occasions if I wanted to be a mentor and have always declined. I don't wanna leave my dog at home if I don't have to, and I would never want to put a trainee in the position of having to "deal with" my dog at a time that's already stressful enough.

A better question is "can you ask for a trainer who showers regularly"?
