Prime trademark dispute - why would Prime NOT have registered it's mark YEARS AGO? While I agree with the inference that Prime Trucking has been doing business way longer than Amazon Prime, there's probably little confusion when seeing and Amazon trailer versus a Prime trailer. OTOH - you snooze, you lose when it comes to filing trademarks, and it's Primes fault they didn't file for one years ago. Since Bezo's has way more $$'s than Mr Low, I'd suspect Jeffy can outspend Rob on this one (even though I wouldn't mind seeing Bezo's take it in the nads).
Rick
Agreed that was stupid. But also what is stupid is that in 2011 when Prime did apply, they were denied due to Amazon using it...."but Amazon didn't begin its own shipping operations until about 2015."
So Prime was denied in 2011 even though Amazon didnt even have trucks until 4 years later.
People are stupid. No, not everyone is going to recognize Amazon as Prime. I can imagine the calls regarding unsafe driving. Believe it or not, our Safety Dept gets calls about PRIDE drivers, so yeah i am sure people will call and blame Prime instead of Amazon.

I agree with Rick on this one. On another note, unless you are in the trucking business, 99.9% of the population is going to answer "Amazon" if you mention "Prime." Also, I don't see how Prime Trucking would be damaged by this situation. This reminds me of the WWF fiasco many years ago. The World Wildlife Fund went after the World Wrestling Federation for using "WWF". To this day, I never think of the World Wildlife Fund when I see WWF. Two completely different groups of "Animals!"
I don't think prime stands much of a chance here. As Rick said, Bezos can easily outspend him and the trademark courts already ruled that it was too late to trademark it because Amazon was using the name. They might have a chance if they were in the same business, but they're not.
As for HOS , changing things constantly just leads to more confusion and dangerous situations. At some point you have to let professionals use their judgement. You can put as many laws on the books as you want, but irresponsible people will Always be a problem and they will spoil it for the bunch. I think that trucking companies have done a great job at being the safest they can be. Extensive background checks and high hiring standards have made roads a lot safer. Technology has also played a huge part in this, but at some point there isn't much else that can be done. This is a profession with Independence so there is no hand holding. If you trust people enough to give them that license and put them in that seat, you have to trust them to be safe and responsible.
