Welcome
Can I assume you have started with these?
High Road CDL Training Program
Best of Luck. There are a couple of Knight drivers in the forum, so ask a lot of questions if you need it. I think they at PacRat and Old School.

A pre-trip inspection is a thorough inspection of the truck completed before driving for the first time each day.
Federal and state laws require that drivers inspect their vehicles. Federal and state inspectors also may inspect your vehicles. If they judge a vehicle to be unsafe, they will put it “out of service” until it is repaired.

Welcome Kevin, and good luck. Please be sure to come forward with any questions. We'll do our best to handle them.
Welcome to our forum Kevin! It would really be cool if you could keep us updated on your experiences as you work through the training and transition into this new career.
You mentioned being...
Very nervous.
Guess what? Everybody is nervous when at fifty something years old they completely change the direction of their life and career. I started my driving career at 53. That was after 30 years of being heavily involved in the business of custom manufactured electric signs.
You're going to be in for a lot of new challenges. You'll be questioning yourself repeatedly. We all went through those same things. Stay the course and stick with what you're doing for a full year before making any major decisions to back-out or jump ship.
Committing yourself to this is critical to your success during that first year. Hang in there. I say all that because I have yet to meet anybody who became a trucker and then declared, "Heck, that was easy!"
Here's a podcast you should listen to. It's got a lot of helpful information in it.
Why Stick With Your First Trucking Company For One Full Year?
Oh, I forgot to say I'm a long time Knight employee. I drive in their dedicated accounts division pulling flat-bed loads for "Hydro," the world's largest producer of aluminum extrusions. I'm happy to help you any way I can.
Remember, you're going to be experiencing some wild swings emotionally during your training. You're going to miss home and family. You're going to doubt your ability to do this. You will no doubt be scared at some point by vicious weather or people driving cars who seem to have a death wish. There's going to be plenty of things that will mess with your comfort levels. You've got to persevere and overcome. Stay the course and it all gets easier. That's my advice.
Here's an article that you may want to read concerning those emotional swings.
