I was dreading the afternoon as it was going to be all backing after lunch.

I know that feeling. I remember taking my lunch break and watching videos on backing trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. The videos didn't help, but it gave me new stuff to try.

After a great Monday, Tuesday was a very bad no good terrible *&$# day. I need to take the evening to clear my head.

This happened to me all the time, don't sweat it. It's very common and after reading a bunch of diaries and general threads I've learned that everybody has bad days. They only thing that matters is that you get back in the drivers seat and keep trying and improving. On a positive note, it should all get better from here.

Training on manuals was a bonus for me but not a deciding factor. It's almost certain that I will be issued an automatic when I get my own truck.

I haven't driven a manual since training and I slip seat. I'd rather drive an auto shifter anyway, less stuff to worry about. I will say that it was easier for me to back a manual than an auto because it's easier to control the speed using the clutch, rather than using the accelerator and brakes on an auto.

You're doing great Bill, don't be so hard on yourself. I had days where I honestly felt like crying from the frustration, but I pushed forward and made it through. I'm confident you'll do the same.

What do they call a guy with 1 point on their skills test (backing) and 17 points on their drive???

DRIVER!

I got it done! Backing wasn’t textbook, but I got it in the hole! Drive was good some minor misses. The tester was great and made sure I was at ease.

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy and relieved I am. Best Christmas present I could think of.

That’s 6 first attempt passes in a row for our class so far. Only 3 left to go.

I’m heading home for a day with the family then back to wrap up Monday and Tuesday. Sounds like like they’ll cut us out at lunch break on Tuesday.
