Congratulations on year 3. I just completed year 1 about a month ago.

That's interesting. Why can't they find linehaul drivers? It's almost impossible to get a linehaul spot off the street at OD here. I'm waiting for a linehaul spot on the dock. I have no interest in doing P/D work so I'm going to wait it out.

Thanks Congratulations on making it one year!

You know I'm not sure why, I was surprised when they said that usually it isn't a problem. Maybe they did something with the runs at the bottom and it scares people off. Our Fort Wayne either makes you work the dock or you sit for 2 hours to be loaded and people hate it.

Linehaul:

Linehaul drivers will normally run loads from terminal to terminal for LTL (Less than Truckload) companies.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) carriers will have Linehaul drivers and P&D drivers. The P&D drivers will deliver loads locally from the terminal and pick up loads returning them to the terminal. Linehaul drivers will then run truckloads from terminal to terminal.

Good stuff Bobcat. Did you end up getting that run? You said Fort Wayne either makes you work the dock or sit for two hours. God forbid a driver gets exercise. Or has to nap for two hours. Doesn't sound bad to me at all.

As they say time flies when you are having fun, hard to believe but today is my 3 year anniversary with Old Dominion. In those 3 years especially at the beginning there where times i thought about hanging it up but have kept pushing so far, and if the cards fall right in the next few week may end up having a good run fall into my lap. Just wish I had gotten my CDL sooner instead of waiting 7 year.

Now only 35 more years till I can retire!

Ha! Got you beat! I can retire in only 25 years.

Of course I'll be 84 BUT STILL ENJOYING LIFE!!!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

We haven't bid yet, they are waiting until they fill all the openings, which for some reason they are having a hard time doing.

After 1 hour of sitting you get paid to nap so there are definitely worse things to he doing. Personally I'm not cut out for dock work, too much pressure.

If I'm lucky I can do it at 65 get me a lake house and a boat and let loose.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
