Annie reached out to me shortly before Thanksgiving and had asked about me. I appreciate that. I also realize I have not been on the forum much the last part of this year. Fortunately, things are turning around. I got clear of colon cancer earlier this year and now am in the process of dealing with family issues between me and my mother. Good news is her house sold and she will be moving on first of the year. For an older lady with a knee replacement, soon to be dual shoulder replacement, oxygen therapy with pulmonary fibrosis a weak heart and some memory problems, she can't keep up with the three story Victorian house she owns.. So that sells in January and hopefully get her an apartment or something around that time.

I still have my CDL and am protecting it, just getting over the little hiccups that have come up. I'm looking to do a more local route if I can with dump trucks. We shall see. This week I am putting out applications and see what bites. If I do go OTR again, it wont be till after the holidays or when mum is settled.

I heard Old School is down for the count, get better buddy always appreciated you.

Thanks

Moe

Moe, it's great to hear from you. I'm glad to see you pressing forward!

Don't worry about me. When I get knocked down to the mat you'd better have a referee who counts fast, because I'm going to get back up quicker than you expect!

I'm glad you finally stopped in here and 'updated the gang,' good sir! Yeah, I'm pretty good at 'finding' people when they 'stray' from TT. Just ask Rick S. (and even O/S . . . I used to bounce into his blogspot, too!) and PJ . . . just the 'momma hen/cheerleader' of the gang~!

Again thanks for sharing; super glad things are looking up for your health, and that of your mom's issues. See you back on the road, soon!

PJ, thanks for that.. it's kinda the 'fist bump' I needed today.. the 'celebration' for my brother is still an abstract, for March 2021 .. I can NOT miss.. again.

Tom has 2.5 weeks vacay going on.. and .. long story.. it'll be me going it alone, perhaps... JUST..... Is what it is. Thanks.

Again, I'm not a doxxer, haha! I just really care a LOT about y'all that I meet on here; perhaps too much.. idk.

Thanks for that bump, PJ.

Stay safe and blessed!

ps: >>>>>>>>Had a nice fb chat w/Laura tonight .... she's hauling palletized totes.. yeah nope. Tom did that ONCE (and i wasn't with, nor did I recall it.. until my mention!) .. and says its WORSE than the front to back surge of y'alls tanks, PJ .. it's a centrifugal force.. pulling all ways at once.

Yeah, nope!

I'm just blessed to share his lil'bits I 'thought' i'd learned about, and my DESIRE to BE out there w/y'all... is inconsolable, haha!

Thanks to y'all that tolerate my 'occasional' occurence. I try to help!!

~ Anne ~

ps: For all y'all future drivers reading this, and I hope there to be many, it's incredible when your S/O even understands a TIDBIT of the life out here. It's what keeps me sane, tbh! Ask PJ, Susan, and others. The sheer comprehesion of their DAY (WEEK?) on the road.. is everything.

That's where things went wrong for Bubbles. . . . << sorry.. I saw that in the forward mirrors! Still care, lady .. stop back!

Good Morning

Well 2021 has started off right for me , I have applied for a yard hostler position and it seems I am the pick. Its actually a perfect fit for me as it will allow me to work on my backing skills alot more and I can be home every day (night shift). After that there is the potential to go LTL or OTR with them whatever I choose to. I had looked at OTR, but with everything going on nationally as well as at home. I think it is best that I take the humble road and remain close to home.

Happy New Year to you all, I hope that this turns out to be a better year for us all and may we not forget some of the hard lessons that 2020 imparted to us.

I will keep you all appraised.

Moe

LTL:

Less Than Truckload

Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

LTL carriers include:

  • FedEx Freight
  • Con-way
  • YRC Freight
  • UPS
  • Old Dominion
  • Estes
  • Yellow-Roadway
  • ABF Freight
  • R+L Carrier

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Great to hear from you Moe, backing a yard truck is different but you'll get the hang of it. After driving a sleeper you'll be amazed much easier they are to maneuver.

Good luck, please keep us updated.
