A bi-partisan team of United States Senators has come together to reintroduce the Promoting Women in Trucking Workforce Act. They are proposing legislation to support women in the trucking industry, and for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to establish a Women in Trucking Advisory Board.

Senators propose legislation to promote women in the trucking industry

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Interesting. What is stopping women from wanting to be truck drivers? Is it just that they're not comfortable because they are so few women already doing it? A job with one of the lowest percentage of women is mechanic, is it the same thing there? Or is it something about the job itself?

Most can't do it until the kiddos are grown and gone. By then many have established themselves in worth while jobs.

Yep, ie: me. Homeschooling the last one, now.

(I got Covid/RIF'd out of my worthwhile job of restauranting/management/serving/bartending.)

OK, so I guess what I was wondering is, what will this legislation be able to do? If there are good reasons for fewer women in trucking, maybe it’s just the way things are.

It will SOUND good. "See! We want to promote equality and diversity across every spectrum of society! Blah, blah, blah."

It's political noise. There will be a lot more. It happens with every new administration. Some actually accomplish something. This newest bunch wants to reinvent the wheel, after denying the wheel ever existed.

I am somewhat disgusted every time I see something like this. Xxxxx wants to create a board to promote xxxxxx in such n such job. Trucking has zero roadblocks to women or minorities in trucking. All I hear is xxxxxx(usually a politician) wants to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to study solutions to a non problem.

Personally, I think all of this promotin of gender n race causes more division and disunity and unhealthy competition amongst the sexes. Im not saying we shouldn't make folks aware of opportunities or support folks to follow their dreams or use their talents, but constantly reinforcing the idea(s) that one gender can do anything the other gender can do or that 1 race oppressed all other races and has privilege is not healthy.

It boggles my mind why the government chooses to focus on this stuff at our expense

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Personally, I'd rather the ZIP on the chatter as well.

Am I an exemplar? Nope. Wanna be one? Nope. Rather see MY tax dollars, elsewhere.

In touch w/plenty of good folks..if this woman gets to pursue her dream of driving in 2022 so be it. Sure don't need ANY promotions, but ME!
