I haven't used them myself as I wear prescription glasses, but my student swears by them. I do wear prescription polarized sunglasses during the day and they make a major difference in glare.
Good question, and no, not a gimmick! I love my yellow night driving glasses; they absolutely cut the glare down at night. They also work well in the morning just before the sun comes up, as well as on dark, overcast days. They brighten the landscape quite a bit. I prefer the aviator style, as it seems to have the larger lens and no border.
Thanks for the responses, I'll try 'em out when the time comes. I see they have clip ons available too to go over prescriptions.
Never used them driving, but that was my choice when skiing. Glare from the snow is worse.
I've really been struggling with all the LED and high beams out there, especially in my mirrors. I'm going to give them a try.

I've noticed while walking near city traffic at night that all the headlights shifting around everywhere is a lot for my eyes to try to sort through. Do the polarized yellow glasses for night driving really help to tamp all that down, or are they just a gimmick? Thanks!
