It's been roughly 17 years since the last time I drove to Orlando Florida and back to NYC Hunt's Point Market. I surrendered my CDL in 2005, after the owner retired and sold the equipment. I haven't driven since and wondered that if I return, would I need to go over the whole training course again like a rookie, and with a driver trainer?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

You would have to start from scratch, yes

I suggest we don’t waste our time with this. Until we receive a reply to PackRats question.
