This morning at 04:25 my grandson and I set out for the ride-a-long. Drove 4 hours from Wisconsin to Rochester, MN. Reached the shipper and are now getting loaded for a delivery to Denver, 885 miles. Devin slept the entire way this morning in the sleeper. That’s a good sign that he can sleep in a moving truck. I’m going to make this a diary of sorts as our time together unfolds. Pictures even, hopefully.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Hope it's fun for both of you, Bruce. How old is your grandson? It seems like some youngsters can sleep in any situation and it makes me envious.

Yesterday went perfectly. Devin took to the truck like a duck to water. We got 624 miles yesterday, which surprised me. He loves the sleeper compartment too much, but I think he needed the rest and he just seemed to relax and enjoy the experience. I’ll add more to the story tonight when I have time. Hopefully today I’ll get him up front more and show him some sights.

Right now we are at King Soopers DC, East 51 Ave in Denver. Last time I was here they took forever to process me in and out. I have no idea what the time frame will be today. confused.gif confused.gif

You might encourage him to do some videos and upload them to YouTube, it could be a nice memory to document for the sake of both of you.

Linda (my wife, Michael's mom) rode along with him for 8 days last year just for the adventure and she found it interesting on how many things were a bit different than she expected. She did one video of a portion of the ride on I-15 through the canyons near Henderson, NV that was fun to see.

What hours do you work? I will be next door to the Sapp Bros about 1730 to 1800. Then I have to leave to head over to McLane to unload at 1930.

Just got my next load where I was to go to Lexington NE to pick up beef, then 30 minutes later it was switched to Guymon OK which is a pork load. That's not supposed to be ready until Sunday morning at 0500. So I may go back and park at what we call the Freedom Yard, which is on the west side of the Sapp Bros parking area.

If you want to meet up, give me a call or text me. My number is in my bio. Coffee at the Sapp Bros in the morning would be good. It's roughly 360 mi down to Guymon, so I have time. Just let me know.
